Liverpool are interested in signing Italian international Nicolo Barella as they aim to overhaul their midfield this summer.

Barella, 26, has enjoyed another consistent season for the Nerazzurri, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 45 matches in all competitions.

The combative midfielder is seen by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as an ideal candidate to immediately undertake the number eight position at Anfield, already playing on the right side of a midfield three for club and country.

And according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian was watched by Liverpool scouts during Inter Milan’s 3-1 win over Lazio at the San Siro at the end of last month.

Seen by many as Italy’s best player, Barella’s arrival from Cagliari was a key reason for the Black and Blue’s title success in 2020-2021, ending Juventus’ run of nine consecutive Serie A titles.
