Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles is a target for Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.

The 29-year-old has slipped down the pecking order since the arrival of head coach Eddie Howe at St James’ Park and could be tempted by the offer of regular first-team football this season in Riyadh.

Jamaal Lascelles set for St James’ Park exit?

According to TEAMTalk, the Saudi side are interested in signing a new central defender before the Thursday deadline after wrapping up a deal to sign Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.

Lascelles has slipped down to fourth-choice center-back and whilst now in the final year of his contract, the Magpies could cash in on the experienced defender before he is able to leave as a free agent next summer.

With Champions League football at stake, the popular Lascelles could be tempted to see out his contract in the North East of England with the Geordies returning to Europe’s premier football competition after over two decades away.

Lascelles has been with Newcastle since 2014 after signing from boyhood club Nottingham Forest.
