Prediction and odds for the game: Juventus (17/20) vs Napoli (16/5)

We are backing Juventus half-time/full-time at odds of 6/4

When: Thursday 6 January 2022, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The Allianz Stadium

On Thursday night, Juventus host Napoli at the Allianz Stadium in what could prove to be a pivotal game at the top of Serie A.

Juventus

Max Allegri’s team found their form before the winter break, as the Bianconeri are now unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, having recorded five wins. With five of those unbeaten games coming in Serie A, the old lady seem to have got their league campaign back on track. However, they are still only fifth-place in the table, four points adrift of fourth-place Atalanta in the race for the Champions League spots.

A recent key to improving results has been a return to the typical defensive displays associated with Juventus in their pomp. The Bianconeri has now kept clean sheets in six of their last eight Serie A matches while conceding just two goals in the process.

Juventus’ home form is showing signs of recovery too, as Allegri’s team has now recorded wins in three of their last four league outings at the Allianz Stadium. They have also kept clean sheets in all three of those recent home wins.

Napoli

After a stellar start to their Serie A campaign, Napoli’s season nosedived just before the winter break. Luciano Spalletti’s team has now won just one of their last eight matches in the Italian top-flight. The run includes losing three of their last four Serie A. Their final game of 2021 resulted in a shock 1-0 home defeat against Spezia. The game followed a low-scoring trend for Napoli games of late, as it was their third straight league match to produce under 2.5 goals.

The recent poor run of league form has seen the team from Naples slip seven points behind reigning champions and league leaders Inter in the race for the Scudetto. They are also looking over their shoulders nervously at fifth-place Juventus, who are just five points behind them.

The Azzurri’s recent away form has been somewhat inconsistent in Serie A. However, the visitors have been difficult to beat of late on the road, as they have lost just one of their previous 13 away matches in the Italian top-flight.

Napoli have been badly hit by AFCON call-ups, with Andre Zambo Anguissa, Kalidou Koulibaly and Adam Ounas all away on international duty. Full-back Mario Rui is also suspended for the clash.

Conclusion

The winter break came at a bad time for Juventus and a good time for Napoli. We fancy Juventus to win this game, but the home win offers poor odds. Instead, we are going to back Juventus half-time/full-time, which offers slightly better odds. The other bet we are backing is under 2.5 goals scored, as Juventus have been strong in defence, while Napoli have struggled for goals of late.

Our Tips: We are backing Juventus half-time/full-time at odds of 6/4 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
