The German Bundesliga campaign finished last weekend, with Bayern Munich pipping arch-rivals Dortmund to the title. For much of the campaign, it seemed that Lucien Favre’s Dortmund were set to end the Bavarians.

Unfortunately, for BVB the reigning champions finished the season in a slightly more consistent fashion, finishing just two points ahead of their title rivals.

Despite that winning the German title, it was a positive campaign for Favre’s team. It seems like it could also be a positive summer transfer too. BVB have already been active bringing in reinforcements.

Dortmund picked up bargains already

The club on the Ruhr have a reputation for signing players at bargain prices and developing them into stars. Usually, these stars impressed and are sold for a big profit, which helps the club remain competitive.

BVB’s recruitment team deserves massive praise, as they look like they have pulled off some more bargains this summer. Dortmund have signed highly-rated attacking midfield duo Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt for fees that total around £45million.

Considering that Chelsea paid BVB more than that just to sign USA starlet Christian Pulisic, the pair look to be a steal. Effectively, Dortmund have signed two good players for the price of a player who is little more than potential at this stage of his career.

Thorgan Hazard, the young brother of Chelsea’s Eden, has impressed immensely for Monchengladbach this season. He scored 13 times and also produced 12 assists for the Foals in a stellar campaign. At 26 years of age, he is in his peak years.

Brandt is a highly-rated young versatile forward, who had previously been linked with moves to the Premier League. The 23-year-old scored seven goals and produced 11 assists in the top-flight for Bayer Leverkusen.

The pair will definitely make Dortmund more dangerous going forward. Both are exciting and dynamic players, who will definitely help BVB challenge Bayern for the title next season.

Dortmund have also brought in Germany international Nico Schulz from Hoffenheim, while Mateu Morey has arrived on a free transfer from Catalan giants Barcelona.

A better squad than this season

Dortmund’s squad for next season looks much stronger than this season. However, there are still doubts over the future of highly-rated England youngster Jadon Sancho. Manchester United are reportedly admirers of the winger.

He would not leave BVB on the cheap, though, with fees of around £100million mentioned in the media for one of the top assist makers in European football last season.

Even if Sancho leaves, Dortmund will have a better squad and will no doubt invest the money wisely in the transfer market in windows to come.

This summer has already been a fine example of why Dortmund are considered to be the perfect model for the self-sustaining European football club. With intelligent people in charge of recruitment BVB are secure off the pitch for the foreseeable future.

Maybe next season Dortmund can will something on the pitch and maybe even stop Bayern’s dominance of the German Bundesliga, even though BVB are once again underdogs to win the German title.

Will Dortmund be stronger next season?
