Neymar tells PSG he wants to leave

|

According to Sky Sports, Brazilian superstar Neymar has told big-spending French giants PSG that he wants to leave the club this summer. This news will not come as a major surprise to anybody who has been following the forward’s trials and tribulations.

Exit seems to be the likely outcome

Neymar has never really seemed happy at PSG. He arrived to be the main man, only for French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe to leave him in the shadows. He has been successful on the pitch, but a variety of injuries have stopped him really thriving.

PSG bought the striker to win the Champions League. However, the French side has not progressed further than previously in Europe’s elite competition during his time at the club.

The French clubs sporting director Leonardo recently stated that Neymar could leave this summer if they received a fee that met their valuation of the player. It seems that he could well now be set for the exit.

Barcelona seems a likely destination

Neymar enjoyed the best years of football career at Barcelona. He also confirmed that the 6-1 win over current club PSG in the Champions League was his best moment in football. It is fair to say that did not go down well with the Parisian club.

Leonardo revealed last week that Barcelona had shown a ‘superficial contact’ in signing Neymar. There has been constant speculation over a return to Catalonia for the forward this summer.

However, reports claim that the Catalan giants will have to pay a big fee, plus players to re-sign the 27-year-old. The most obvious player for inclusion in a part-exchange deal would be Neymar friend and international teammate, Philippe Coutinho. His switch from Liverpool in the January 2018 window has just not worked out.

Barcelona is the kind of football club that can chew up and spit good players out if they do not perform to the required standard. Coutinho has not been awful at the Nou Camp, but he has not hit the heights of his Liverpool in the Catalan capital either.

The Sky Sports report claims that nobody from any club has approached the playmaker about a move elsewhere. However, that could all change if Barcelona really wants to force through a move for Neymar. They have already brought in Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer.

However, Neymar is highly-regarded in the Blaugrana dressing room, even if he is not by the powers that be at the club. He is no doubt a great player and would be a good addition. Coming to an arrangement with PSG may be difficult, as the French club look to recoup the reported £200million by paid the Catalans for the forward two years ago.

Unlikely to play for PSG again

It seems highly unlikely that Neymar will ever play for PSG again. Barcelona are the favourites to sign the forward this summer and it is hard to see the Brazilian plying his trade anywhere else but Catalonia next season.

It will be interesting to see how Barcelona will manage to integrate all their attacking talent if the Brazilian does return to the club. Then again everything involving Neymar seems to be interesting, the good, the bad and the ugly of the 27-year-old’s personality and life. There is never a dull moment when it comes to Neymar.

I don’t think we have heard the last of Neymar’s future. If a quick deal cannot be done then this potential transfer has the potential to run into a summer-long transfer saga, which is not really great for the player or either club.

Where will Neymar be plying his trade next season?
