On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues look to continue their promising recent run in the Premier League. The visitors meanwhile will be looking to move further clear of the relegation zone.

Chelsea (Odds of 2/7 for victory)

Frank Lampard’s side are big favourites to record a fourth Premier League win in five outings. Last time out the Blues recorded a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Southampton. The game saw young striker Tammy Abraham score his eighth goal in as many Premier League appearances this season.

The youngster has played a big part in the home sides stellar recent attacking record, as they have now scored at least two goals in five of their last six top-flight outings. The exception was a 2-1 home defeat by Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Chelsea surprisingly have won just once in their last top-flight games at Stamford Bridge. A 2-0 defeat of Brighton in their last home game ended a frustrating three-game winless run on home soil in the Premier League. They have been difficult to beat on their own patch of late in the league, suffering just one defeat in their last 13 home games.

The Blues have been potent in attack of late in the top-flight at Stamford Bridge, scoring at least twice in nine of their last 11 home matches.

Newcastle (Odds of 17/2 for victory)

The Magpies are massive underdogs to pick up a win in south west London. The team from the north east have a poor recent record against Chelsea, having lost five of the last six meetings with the Blues.

After a difficult start to the season, Steve Bruce’s team at least moved out of the relegation zone before the break by recording a 1-0 win over Manchester United at St James Park. The victory ended a four-game winless run for the visitors in the Premier League and saw them keep a second clean sheet in their last three matches.

The Magpies have a poor recent record away from home in the Premier League, losing three of their last four matches on their travels. They have also conceded at least three goals in all three of those victories.

However, the visitors do have happy memories of the last time they visit the capital, as it resulted in a 1-0 win at Tottenham. A repeat of that score looks highly unlikely on Saturday, though.

Conclusion

In all honesty, we cannot see anything other than a home win in this clash. Chelsea’s young players seem to be thriving under Frank Lampard, especially youngsters Abraham and Mount.

The tip we believe may be a worthwhile one is to back Abraham to score at any time, which is available at odds of 4/6. Not great odds, but the way the 22-year-old has played in recent games it looks like a no-brainer.
