Everton will take on Watford at Goodison Park with the winner moving on to the quarter-finals of this season’s Carabao Cup.

Everton (8/11)

Everton haven’t exactly been blowing anyone out of the water this season, and they’ve actually been pretty underwhelming all in all. Even with that being the case, it’s still well known that they’ve got a squad that should be more than capable of edging away from the relegation zone. However, as we all know, logic doesn’t really come into play in the Premier League. The Goodison Park faithful is tired and ready for change, but that isn’t going to come overnight – not even close.

Everton beat Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup to get to this point and also put in one of the best performances of the season against West Ham in the Premier League. Their losses over the course of the last six have ranged from expected to embarrassing, against Brighton, Burnley, Manchester City and Sheffield United.

Watford (15/4)

Since reaching the FA Cup Final six months ago, the downward trajectory of Watford Football Club has been fairly remarkable to watch. They just can’t seem to replicate the sort of form we saw from them last season, and with their managerial merry-go-round continuing to plague them, there’s a very real chance they could go down. In order to rectify that they need to start playing to their strength, and they could also do with another run at a Wembley appearance.

Watford are struggling for air and the only time they’ve been able to celebrate recently was in a 2-1 cup win over Swansea. They’re currently on a run of three straight draws against Sheffield United, Tottenham and Bournemouth. Their defeats were against Manchester City and Wolves, in which they shipped 10 goals in two games.

Conclusion

Both teams should be viewing this as a great opportunity to try and make a run towards Wembley, but we think only one is going to take it seriously: and that’s Watford. The Hornets are struggling for air in the Premier League and will consider this to be a big distraction. Everton, on the other hand, know that their fans would rather see them push back in the league than the cup. That’s why we think Watford will get the job done here, putting even more pressure on the shoulders of Marco Silva.

We don’t think this is going to be the kind of goalfest that these two teams are capable of producing, leading us to believe it’ll end up hitting under 2.5 goals. That doesn’t mean we aren’t going to get an entertaining game, though, because that’s one thing that these two clubs know to do when the brights are on light. They’ll put on a show, at the very least.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 15/4 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from bet365).
