On Friday night, Dortmund returns to Bundesliga action, as BVB host struggling Paderborn at the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund (Odds of 1/7 for victory)

BVB head into this clash on the back of another mauling in Munich, as last time out they suffered a 4-0 loss at arch-rivals Bayern Munich. The defeat was not usual though, as they have now suffered heavy defeats at the Allianz Arena in the last three seasons.

The defeat leaves BVB six points adrift of league leaders Monchengladbach in the race for top spot. The home side are still well-positioned in the league, as they are only two points outside the Champions League spots in a congested section of the German top-flight table.

Prior to the defeat against Bayern, Dortmund showed some promising defensive signs, as they had kept three straight clean sheets in the German top-flight.

BVB’s recent home record is also encouraging, as Favre’s team has won nine of their previous 11 Bundesliga at Signal Iduna Park. A big factor in those good recent home results in the German top-flight is their attacking prowess, as they have scored at least two twice in 21 out of their last 22 league outings.

Dortmund are undefeated in three meetings with Paderborn, although the visitors did hold BVB to a 2-2 draw in 2014.

Paderborn (Odds of 12/1 for victory)

The visitors are expecting a difficult season in the German top-flight, losing nine of their first 11 league matches and yielding just four points in the process. In fact, they have now lost 12 of their last 14 games in the Bundesliga, dating back to their last spell in the German top tier in 2014/15.

Last time out in the Bundesliga, they suffered a 1-0 home defeat against fellow strugglers Augsburg. The result means that Paderborn have now failed to score in three of their last four league matches.

Paderborn have really struggled for results away from home in both their recent spells in the Bundesliga, as they have lost nine of their last 11 league games on their travels. The visitors have avoided defeat just once in their five away matches in the German top-flight this season.

The main problem for Steffen Baumgart’s team of late on their travels has been conceding too many goals, as they have now conceded at least twice in four of their five away games in the Bundesliga this season. The fact they have scored just four times on their travels has not helped either.

Conclusion

Dortmund will be desperate to get back to winning ways after that heavy defeat in Bavaria. Favre’s team will feel highly confident of recording a victory over the bottom team too. The home win offers little value in terms of betting, though.

However, Spanish striker Paco Alcacer is odds of 2/3 to score at any time, which is not terrible odds considering he has scored five times in eight league appearances this season. Backing Dortmund to win 3-0 at 8/1 also looks like a good wildcard bet.

Verdict: Back Paco Alcacer to score any time at odds of 2/3 and/or Dortmund to win 3-0 at odds of 8/1.
