In the Premier League’s early kick-off, West Ham host Tottenham at the London Stadium, in Jose Mourinho’s first game as Tottenham boss.

West Ham (Odds of 14/5 for victory)

The Hammers head into this clash on a winless run of six games in the Premier League, having suffered four defeats in their last five league outings. The poor run of form has seen the team from the English capital drop to 16th place in the table. The future of experienced Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini has been brought into question due to the team’s poor recent results.

Poor defensive displays have been at the heart of the Irons recent poor results, having conceded at least two goals in five of their last six top-flight matches.

Home soil has proven little advantage for Pellegrini’s team, who have won just two of their six Premier League games on home soil this season. Recently the Hammers have lost two of their last three league matches at the London Stadium against Crystal Palace and last time out Newcastle.

The Irons are at least always an attacking threat on home soil, as they have failed to score in just one of their last eight home matches while scoring at least twice in five of the games in that run.

Tottenham (Odds of 17/20 for victory)

One of the biggest stories in football this week was the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Tottenham boss. The Portuguese boss replaced highly-rated coach Mauricio Pochettino due to Spurs poor start to the season so far.

The team from north London have failed to win in five league games, dating back to the end of September. One of their problems of late in the top-flight has been their defensive vulnerabilities, as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in seven league games.

Another major problem of late has been picking results away from home in the Premier League. In fact, the visitors have failed to win on their travels in the English top-flight in 12 games, suffering nine defeats in the process. Once again poor defensive displays have been the crux of Spurs problems away from home in the league, as they have conceded at least twice in five of their last six games.

The arrival of Mourinho should see a reaction from the Tottenham players. However, what sort of reaction he can get from the team in just a few days training remains to be seen.

Conclusion

Both teams head into this London derby in poor form. The difference is that Tottenham have just appointed a new boss in Mourinho. We believe that will be enough to see the visitors end their long winless away run in the Premier League, so we are backing the away win at 17/20. Considering that neither team can defend at the minute, this might sound a strange one but we are also backing the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4, as the visitors will be desperate to impress new boss Mourinho.

Verdict: Back the away win at 17/20 and/or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
