Prediction and odds for the game: Southampton (4/6) v Burnley (4/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4

When: Saturday 15th February 2020, Kick-off 12:30 PM

Where: St Marys Stadium

In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Southampton host Burnley at St Mary’s, as both teams look to move a step closer away from the relegation zone.

Southampton

The Saints have recovered from a poor start to the campaign to move up to 13th place in the Premier League table, seven points clear of the relegation zone. The team from the south coast look relatively comfortable in the table. However, a poor run of form could easily see Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team get dragged back into the fight for Premier League survival.

The home sides recent league form has been inconsistent, as a 4-0 defeat at champions-elect Liverpool means that the Saints have suffered two defeats in their last three Premier League games.

One of the poor aspects of the current Southampton team is their struggles at home. In fact, the Saints have won just three of their last 14 league matches at St Mary’s. More recently they have won once in their last four home games.

The team from the south coast have failed to beat Burnley in the last six meetings between the two teams in all competitions.

Burnley

The visitors are 11th place in the top-flight table but are only above the home side on goal difference. A win could take Sean Dyche’s team into the top half of the Premier League table.

The Clarets form in the top-flight has improved of late, as a goalless draw against Arsenal last time out means Burnley are three league games unbeaten, having recorded two wins and a draw. The visitors recent league games have been relatively low-scoring of late, as six of their last nine Premier League matches have produced under 2.5 goals.

Burnley have a poor recent away record in the English top-flight, as they have lost five of their last eight league games on their travels in the Premier League.

Their recent away games in the Premier League on the road have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine away matches. A lack of goals has been an issue on their travels, as the Clarets have failed to score in four of their last seven away games in the league.

Conclusion

There is very little between these two teams when it comes to league position. Southampton have not been great, while Burnley’s firm has improved of late. However, the Clarets are poor on their travels, which is why we are backing the draw.

We are also backing Southampton striker Danny Ings to score at any time, as he has been in good form this season and Burnley tend to concede on their travels.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4 and/or Danny Ings to be an anytime scorer at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
