Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (17/20) v Manchester United (7/2)

We are backing the home win

When: Monday 17th February 2020, Kick-off 8 PM

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Monday night, Chelsea host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, in a game that could have big implications on the race for the Champions League spots in the Premier League.

Chelsea

Frank Lampard’s team are currently in the driving seat to finish in fourth spot in the Premier League this season. The Blues are two points clear of Sheffield United, who occupy fifth-place in the table and four points clear of sixth-place Spurs.

The home side has not been in great form of late, as they have won just once in their last five Premier League games. The Blues last two league outings have finished in 2-2 draws against Arsenal and last time Leicester.

Lampard’s team have proven very generous to the opposition of late in the Premier League, as they have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven league outings.

Chelsea’s usually pretty consistent home form has dipped in recent games, as the Blues have won just two of their six league matches on home soil, suffering three defeats in the process. Their recent home games have been relatively low-scoring in the Premier League.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have struggled for consistency of late in the Premier League, winning just one of their last five league games, while suffering three defeats in the process.

Last time out in the English top-flight, United drew 0-0 with Wolves at Old Trafford. The result means that the Red Devils have failed to score in their last three top-flight matches. They have never to score in four Premier League outings. In fact, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has now scored in just one of their last four matches. The visitors are struggling to score goals without the injured Marcus Rashford, who is still sidelined with a back problem.

United have been poor travellers of late in the Premier League, suffering three defeats in their last four away matches. Once again, issues with scoring goals have popped up in those away defeats, as United failed to score in all three losses.

However, one positive for United heading to the English capital is that they have lost just one of their last seven meetings with the Blues in all competitions. On current, that record is in major danger of worsening in this clash.

Conclusion

In terms of form, neither have a great recent record in the Premier League. However, we are edging towards a home win in this clash, as United have looked just so devoid of attacking threat in recent matches. Also, with that in mind, we are backing the under 2.5 goals scored too, as Chelsea have been inconsistent in front of goal on home soil of late.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 17/20 and/or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
