Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (17/20) v Everton (3/1)

We are taking a punt on the draw at odds of 14/5

When: Sunday 08th March 2020, Kick-off 2 PM

Where: Stamford Bridge

On Sunday afternoon, Chelsea host Everton at Stamford Bridge, as the home side look to consolidate their position in the Premier League’s top-four.

Chelsea

Frank Lampard’s team have remained in the top four, despite a wildly inconsistent recent run of form in the English top-flight. The recent underwhelming run has seen Manchester United in fifth-place and sixth-place Wolves move to within three points of the home side in the table.

A 2-2 draw at relegation-threatened Bournemouth last time out means that the Blues have recorded just one win in their last six Premier League matches.

The draw against the Cherries saw Chelsea’s alarming recent defensive record continue, as the team from south west London have now conceded at least two goals in four of their last five matches in the English top-flight.

Just like their recent league form in general, Chelsea’s home record in the Premier League has been unconvincing, as the Blues have won just two of their last six matches on home soil in the English top-flight.

Chelsea have at least been prolific of late on home soil, scoring at least twice in three of their last four Premier League outings at Stamford Bridge.

Everton

Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as Everton head coach has given everybody connected with the club hope that the Toffees can move forward.  The Merseysider’s are just five points off fifth-place, despite being 11th in the table.

That gap could have been smaller if Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s stoppage-time winner over Manchester United in a 1-1 draw would have stood. As it is the Toffees have lost just one of their last seven top-flight games while suffering only two league defeats since Ancelotti’s arrival.

When it comes to goals, the Toffees recent matches have certainly offered value for money. In fact, four of their last five league matches have produced over 2.5 goals, while both teams have scored in their last six league matches.

The Toffees have been underwhelming on their travels in the Premier League of late, as the Merseysider’s have won just two of their last eight games in the English top-flight. Both teams have scored in Everton’s last ten league matches on the road.

The Toffees have struggled at the back in recent away games, conceding at least two goals in five of their last eight matches on their travels. One other negative for the visitors is the fact that they have now won at Chelsea in any competition in their last 26 visitors.

Conclusion

Chelsea are just so unpredictable, while Everton could be a dangerous opponent with forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in such stellar form. We are taking a punt on the draw, while also backing the over 2.5 goals simply due to both teams’ poor recent defensive records.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
