Prediction and odds for the game: Werder Bremen (11/4) v Wolfsburg (19/20)

We are backing the away win

When: Sunday, 7th June 2020, Kick-off 12:30

Where: The Wohninvest Weserstadion

On Sunday afternoon, Werder Bremen host Wolfsburg at the Weserstadion in a game that could be massive in the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen

The home side head into this clash desperately in need of maximum in the fight for survival in the German top-flight. Florian Kohfeldt’s team are 17th place in the Bundesliga table ahead of this weekend’s action. However, they are now just two adrift of 16th place Fortuna Dusseldorf and three shy of Mainz in 15th position.

A 3-0 defeat at home against Eintracht Frankfurt ended a three-game undefeated run in the German top-flight for Bremen. The loss also saw a run of three consecutive clean sheets end.

A woeful recent record at the Weserstadion has played a big part in their perilous position in the Bundesliga. Werder have not won any of their previous 12 league games on home soil, having suffered defeats in eight of their last home matches in the German top-flight. They have offered very little goal threat at home in the Bundesliga of late, as they have failed to score in seven of their last eight home games.

Wolfsburg

The visitors are somehow still clinging to the last European spot in the Bundesliga. However, the Wolves are only above seventh-place Hoffenheim by virtue of superior goal difference. Oliver Glasner’s team cannot afford any slip-ups with just five league games of the season remaining.

A 2-1 home loss against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out means they have lost two of their last three outings in the German top-flight. The loss against Eintracht followed a familiar high-scoring pattern, as six of their last eight Bundesliga have produced over 2.5 goals.

The Wolves have been on a fine recent away run of form, as they are undefeated in five league games on their travels, having recorded four wins. The visitors have been lethal in front of goal on the road in the Bundesliga, scoring at least twice in their last five league matches on their travels. Their stellar attacking displays have contributed to over 2.5 goals scored in their last six away games in the German top-flight.

One big negative for Wolfsburg heading into this clash is that they have failed to beat Werder in any of the last eight meetings, suffering six defeats in the process.

Conclusion

Werder have shown signs of their form turning around of late, but the defeat against Frankfurt showed that they are still fragile. Wolfsburg have been strong on the road of late. Therefore, we are backing the away win. We are also backing over 2.5 goals scored, as the visitors have been prolific of late, and despite a slight recent improvement at the back, Werder still looks suspect in defence.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 19/20 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
