Prediction and odds for the game: Barcelona (5/6) v Atletico Madrid (16/5)

We are backing the home win

When: Tuesday, 30th June 2020, Kick-off 21:00

Where: The Nou Camp

On Tuesday night, Barcelona face a potentially tough challenge in their quest to retain their La Liga crown, as they welcome in-form Atletico Madrid to the Nou Camp.

Barcelona

The reigning champions are currently a point ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have a game in-hand later today against Barcelona’s city rivals Espanyol. A draw would be enough to take Los Blancos back to the top of the table because of their superior head-to-head record in the home games with the home team.

The Blaugrana would have been in a slightly strong position in the title race if they had not surrendered a lead late on in their last game at Celta Vigo. A late Iago Aspas free-kick rescued a point for Celta in a 2-2 draw. The result could prove costly to Quique Setien’s team in the race for the Spanish title.

However, Barcelona will be confident of winning this clash. The Catalan giants are strong on home soil, as they are undefeated in 28 league matches at the Nou Camp. Setien’s team has also kept clean sheets in their last four home games in the Spanish top-flight.

Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone’s team have risen to third place in the table after a recent good run of form in La Liga. Los Rojiblancos are undefeated in their five league games since the restart, including recording four straight league wins. A 2-1 home win over Alaves last time out means that Atletico are undefeated in ten La Liga matches. The win put the visitors in a good position when it comes to potential qualification for next seasons Champions League.

Atletico have been close to their old stingy defence of previous seasons of late, as Simeone’s team has conceded just one goal in their last four league outings in the Spanish top-flight.

The visitors are undefeated in their last five away matches in the Spanish top-flight. However, Atletico have won just four of their last 13 away games in La Liga, with draws tending to be their biggest problem. Atleti’s recent league matches away from the capital have been low-scoring, with 14 of their last 16 games producing under 2.5 goals.

Atletico Madrid recorded a 3-2 victory last times these two teams met. The Copa del Rey win at the Nou Camp ended a nine-game winless run for Atletico against the reigning champions in all competitions.

Conclusion

Barcelona know that the title race is now out of their hands and all they can do is win their games and hope that Real Madrid slip-up. The champions have not been at their best of late. However, we do believe that will edge a tight encounter. The home side has improved massively in defence on home soil, while Atletico’s recent defensive record, in general, has improved. Backing under 2.5 goals scored is probably a wise move.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 5/6 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
