Prediction and odds for the game: Germany (13/10) v Spain (21/10)

We are backing the home win

When: Thursday, 3rd September 2020, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The Mercedes Benz Arena

On Thursday night, two of the giants of world football meet in Stuttgart, as Germany host Spain at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Group A4 of the Nations Leagues.

Germany

Like most international teams it has been a long time since they have played. Die Mannschaft’s last match was way back in November 2019, when Joachim Low’s team demolished Northern Ireland 6-1 in qualifying for Euro 2020. The win last time out means that Germany has now won eight of their last 12 international matches, having suffered just one defeat against bitter rivals the Netherlands.

Low seems to have got his team back on track after some terrible performances in the inaugural Nations League campaign back in 2018. The campaign saw Germany fail to win any of their games in a group involving the aforementioned Netherlands and also another big rival France. Die Mannschaft picked up just two draws and suffered two defeats in the competition, finishing bottom of the group.

They are now a much different team to the one that struggled two in their previous Nations League. A group of younger exciting players has emerged, including the likes of Chelsea new boy Timo Werner and Blues target Kai Havertz.

Spain

Like their opponents, Spain cruised to qualification for Euro 2020 and La Roja head into this clash 11 games unbeaten, having recorded nine victories. The visitors endured rather mixed fortunes in the Nations League back in 2018.

They opened their campaign with a 2-1 win in England before hammering Croatia 6-0. However, they finished the campaign with 3-2 home defeat against England and suffering a 3-2 defeat in Croatia. One thing that could not be said of Spain in this competition is that their games have been boring, as all four matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Spain head coach Luis Enrique has named an exciting young squad, with so many young Spanish players impressing throughout the major European leagues. Several uncapped players have earned calls up to the senior squad.

Players like Adama Traore, Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia and Sergio Reguilon all have a chance to make their debut in the doubleheader over the next ten days. The Spanish team will be hoping to blood many of those young players before next year’s European Championship.

Prediction

This could be a fantastic clash between two international teams with such exciting young squads. This game could go either way, but we are predicting a narrow home win, even without Germany’s Bayern continent. With the attacking players available to both teams, it should also be a high-scoring and attacking game, so we are also backing the over 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 13/10 and over 2.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
