Prediction and odds for the game: Switzerland (10/3) v Germany (4/5)

We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5

When: Sunday, 6th September 2020, Kick-off 19:45

Where: St. Jakob-Park

On Sunday night, Switzerland hosts Germany in Group A4 of the Nations League, as both teams look to pick up their first wins of the latest edition of the competition.

Switzerland

The home side kicked off their Nations League campaign with a 2-1 defeat in Ukraine, with their hosts going to the top of the group table. The defeat means that Switzerland have failed to win any of their last three games in the Nations League, having suffered two defeats and picked up one draw.

The draw then resulted in a penalty kick defeat to England in the third-place play-off in the last Nations League campaign. The game finished goalless after 90 minutes. The game last time out was a trend breaker for the home side in the Nations League, in that it was low-scoring, as their other six matches in the competition have produced over 2.5 goals.

Switzerland have won both of their previous home games in the competition, scoring at least five goals in each of their home encounters. That high-scoring home record in the Nations League is majorly at stake in this clash.

The home team are without key Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri through injury. Renato Steffen could also come in at left-back in place of Steven Zuber.

Germany

Die Mannschaft opened their campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Spain, with La Roja scoring an equaliser deep into stoppage-time. The draw means that Joachim Low’s team has now failed to win any of their five matches in the Nations League, picking up three draws and suffering two defeats.

The draw last time out means that Germany rather uncharacteristically have kept just one clean sheet in their five matches in the last two editions of the fledgeling competition. There have also been at least two goals scored in their previous matches in the Nations League.

Germany have only played two away games in this competition, suffering defeats in the Netherlands and France. The defeats will have hurt against two of their biggest international rivals.

The visitors are without highly-talented attacker Kai Havertz has left the national team to complete his big-money move to Premier League Chelsea. Dortmund full-back Nico Schulz will not feature due to injury, so Atalanta’s Robin Gosens will continue to deputise after producing assist on his debut last time out.

Conclusion

This could be a tight encounter between two very good teams. Switzerland tends to be strong on home soil, but it remains to be seen how the lack of fans will affect the home team. The visitors have struggled in the Nations League and seem to have struggled in this competition. We are backing this game to finish in a low-scoring draw.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5 (All odds are taken from Bet365).
