Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (8/11) v West Ham (4/1)

We are backing the home win

When: Wednesday, 30th September 2020 Kick-off 19:45

Where: Goodison Park

On Wednesday night, Everton host West Ham at Goodison Park in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, as both teams look to continue recent good runs of form.

Everton

The new-look Toffees have made a bright start to the campaign, winning all three of their Premier League matches, while recording convincing wins over Salford and Fleetwood Town in the previous rounds of this competition. Not only have the Merseysider’s been a success on the pitch of late, as one of their pre-game songs ‘Spirit of the Blues’ knocked Miley Cyrus off the top of the I-tunes charts.

The League Cup is the only domestic cup competition that the Toffees have failed to win in their history. With the wily Carlo Ancelotti at the helm and a talented group of players, there is a real belief that they can go all the way in the competition this season.

Despite a lack of success in this competition down the years, Everton have been hard to beat in the League Cup of late, as they are unbeaten in eight games in 90 minutes. However, they have exited the competition on penalty kicks in the last two seasons. The Toffees have also suffered defeat just once in their last 16 home games in the competition in normal time.

Ancelotti has named rotated his squad heavily in previous rounds. However, there may be slightly fewer changes for this clash, considering the opposition.

West Ham

The Hammers looked to be a club in crisis this summer, with a lack of signings and the sale of highly-rated youngster Grady Diangana. However, things may be looking up for David Moyes team. The visitors followed up a 5-1 win over Hull City in the last round of this competition by recording a 4-0 home win over Wolves last time out in the Premier League.

The recent form of French striker Sebastian Haller has been pivotal in the recent wins, as the 26-year-old has scored three goals in his last two appearances for the Irons in all competitions.

West Ham have a decent recent record in the Carabao Cup, winning eight of their previous 11 matches in the competition. Their recent games have certainly offered good value for money when it comes to goals, as six of their last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

The recent history of this fixture is against the Hammers, who have won just two of the last 27 meetings with Everton in all competitions.

Conclusion

The Toffees have looked impressive this season and looked far better this season than their highly underwhelming efforts last season. We fancy Everton to continue their winning run against former boss David Moyes on Wednesday night. The other bet we are going to back is Sebastian Haller to be an anytime goalscorer, as the French forward looks to be in hot form.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 8/11 and/or Sebastian Haller to be any time goalscorer at odds of 9/4.
