Prediction and odds for the game: Portugal (29/20) v France (2/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 21/10

When: Saturday, 14th November 2020, Kick-off 19:45

Where: Estadio da Luz

On Saturday night, Portugal host France at the Estadio da Luz in Group A3 of the Nations League, with the two teams fighting for supremacy of the group.

Portugal

The European champions have been in good form of late as they head into this clash on the back of an eight-game undefeated run, including recording six victories. On Wednesday night, the Selecao hammered Andorra 7-0 in a friendly match. The game continued their impressive defensive record, as Fernando Santos’ team have now kept five clean sheets.

The home side has also been relatively potent in attack too, as they have scored at least two goals in six of those eight unbeaten matches.

Portugal are of course the holders of the Nations League, having beaten the Netherlands in the final of the last edition of the competition. Therefore is not much of a surprise that the Selecao have a good record in the Nations League, as they are undefeated in their ten games in the competition, recording victories in seven matches.

Their home record in the new competition is excellent, as the Selecao are unbeaten on home soil, recording five wins in the run.

France

The Bleus head into this clash on the back of a shock 2-0 home defeat by Finland in a friendly game on Wednesday night. However, the world champions will see the loss as just a blip, as they were previously undefeated in 12 international matches.

France have a decent recent record in the Nations League, winning five of their last eight matches in the relatively new competition. Les Bleus only defeat in the Nations League was back in 2018 when they lost 2-0 to eventual runners up the Netherlands. However, the visitors have not been great defensively in the competition, as they have kept just two clean sheets in their previous seven games.

Les Bleus have an inconsistent recent away record in the Nations League, having won just two of their last four games on their travels. However, they have won their previous two away matches in the competition in Sweden and Croatia. France also have a good recent record against Portugal, as they have won four of the last six meetings and are undefeated in 90 minutes against the home side. However, they did lose 1-0 to Portugal in extra-time of the Euro 2016 final.

Conclusion

It is hard to choose between these two teams, as both have such quality within their squad. Therefore, we are backing the game to finish all-square. We also believe this game will be low-scoring and tight, so the other recommendation we are making is under 2.5 goals.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 21/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
