Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (2/9) vs Istanbul Basaksehir (11/1)

We are backing Bruno Fernandes to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 21/20

When: Tuesday, 24th November 2020, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Old Trafford

On Tuesday night, Manchester United will look for revenge when they host Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford in Group H.

Manchester United

The Red Devils head into this clash on the back of a controversial 1-0 home win over West Brom. The only goal of the game came from a Bruno Fernandes retaken penalty kick after he missed at the first attempt. The spot-kick was retaken after Baggies goalkeeper was adjudged to have come off his line. The win was United’s first of the campaign on home soil in the Premier League.

Before gameweek three of the Champions League, the competition was United redeemer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team had won 201 at PSG before a 5-0 home victory over RB Leipzig. However, last time out in this competition the men from Manchester suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Turkish capital in the reverse fixture.

The home side are still top the group but the defeat has opened up the group, with RB Leipzig now also on six points too. Big-spending French giants have picked up just three points so far, but will be expected to improve in the near future.

A big negative heading into this clash for the Red Devils is that they have a poor recent home record in the Champions League. In fact, they have won just two of their previous seven matches on home soil in the competition.

United rotated their squad in the previous meeting. However, head coach Solskjaer is unlikely to take any chances in this clash.

Istanbul Basaksehir

The visitors will be looking to stun the home side once again at Old Trafford. The team from the Turkish capital were expected to be the group whipping boys considering the other teams in the group.

However, the victory in the reverse fixture has given Okan Burak’s team a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of this competition or more likely finishing third and dropping down into the Europa League.

The win over United was the visitor’s first-ever victory in the Champions League at the seventh time of asking. The Turkish side had suffered defeat in five of their previous six games since their debut in the competition back in 2017. The win also ended a poor run defensive form, as Basaksehir had conceded at least two goals in five of their previous six outings in Europe’s elite competition.

Conclusion

It is hard to know what you are going to get from Manchester United. The Red Devils produced a superb display to win at an under-strength Everton before the international break, only to play poorly struggling West Brom last time out.

We do think that the home team will record a victory in this clash, but the home win offers little value. Instead, we are backing Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes to be an anytime goalscorer. We are also backing over 2.5 goals to be scored at odds of 8/15.

Verdict: We are backing Bruno Fernandes to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 21/20 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/15. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
