Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (3/4) vs Leeds (3/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 16/5

When: Saturday, 2nd January 2020, Kick-off 12:30

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, Tottenham host Leeds United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as the home team look to kick-start their campaign after a poor recent run of form.

Tottenham

Jose Mourinho’s side has gone from potential title challengers to seventh place in the Premier League table in the space of a few weeks. A four-game winless run in the English top-flight has shown Spurs limitations.

A 1-1 draw at Wolves came after back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Leicester. The poor recent run of form leaves Tottenham seven points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have played an extra game than the team from north London.

One positive for Spurs of late has been their league form on home soil. However, a 2-0 home defeat against Leicester in their last Premier League encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended a five-game unbeaten home run. The game also saw a prolific run in front of goal on home soil end, as Spurs had scored at least two goals in their previous four outings in the top-flight.

Tottenham need star forward duo Heung Min-Son and Harry Kane to return to goalscoring form. The pair have 11 and nine top-flight goals respectively in the Premier League this season.

Leeds

Marcelo Bielsa’s team heads to north London in high spirits after a decent run of form that has seen the Whites move within three points of the home team in the table. A 5-0 win at struggling West Brom last time out means the Yorkshire outfit have won three of their last four league games. They have also been highly prolific in front of goal, having scored at least two goals in three of their last four league outings.

Striker Patrick Bamford has been in impressive form this season, as the former Chelsea star has scored ten times in top-flight.

One facet of Leeds play that needs to improve is their away record. The visitors could not have a more inconsistent record on their travels in the top-flight, as they have won four and lost four of their eight Premier League matches since winning promotion.

The Whites recent away games in the English top-flight have tended to be high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six matches on their travels.

Conclusion

Tottenham’s form has nosedived of late, while Leeds seem to be improving and their distinctive style of play is picking up results more often than not. On current form, we believe that Leeds could nick a point in this game. The recommendation we are backing is under 2.5 goals, as despite Leeds attacking strength, Spurs have relatively strong in defence and boss Mourinho has been his stereotypically pragmatic self of late.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 16/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 7/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
