Prediction and odds for the game: Wolves (19/20) vs Crystal Palace (3/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10

When: Friday, 8th January 2021, Kick-off 19:45

Where: Molineux Stadium

On Friday night, Wolves host Crystal Palace at Molineux, in the FA Cup third round.

Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are in a slump after failing to win in their last four matches in the Premier League. Last time out, the team from the Midlands drew 3-3 with Brighton. The defeat means that Wolves have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last ten games in all competitions.

The home team have even struggled for points at Molineux of late, winning just one of their previous four home matches.

Wolves have a mixed recent record in the FA Cup, as they have failed to win in their last three games, suffering two defeats and one game finishing all-square. However, they did make it to the competition’s semi-finals in 2019, suffering an agonising 3-2 extra-time defeat by Watford.

They are unbeaten in five home games in the FA Cup, including victories over both Liverpool and Manchester United.

One positive for Wolves going into this clash is their recent record against Palace, as the home side has beaten the Eagles in three of the last five meetings, losing just once in the process. They have also won the last two meetings against Palace, with both wins coming at Molineux.

Crystal Palace

Similar to the home side, Palace heads into this clash in poor form, as the Eagles have won just one of their last six games. A 2-0 win over struggling Sheffield United last time out ended a run of five games without a win for Palace.

However, the Eagles have picked up four points from their last two league games. Their recent matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine games. Roy Hodgson’s side has not been great in attack this season.

The visitors have a mixed recent record in the FA Cup, as the Eagles have won three and suffered four defeats in their last seven matches. However, the Eagles have exited the English at the third round stage in the last two seasons. Palace have won just one of their previous four away games in the famous old competition.

Conclusion

Neither side head into this clash in the best of form. The home side particularly have seemed to lack confidence in recent weeks, with the lack of injured star forward Raul Jimenez a major issue. Palace are also unpredictable.

This game is difficult to judge, but we are backing the draw in this clash. We also believe this could be a tight and low-scoring clash. Therefore, the other bet we recommend is under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 23/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 7/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
