Prediction & odds for the game: Burnley (5/4) v Bournemouth (23/10) – ST is backing the home win
When: Tuesday, 9th February @ 5.30pm K.O
Where: Turf Moor
Burnley and Bournemouth will meet at Turf Moor tomorrow night with the winner progressing to the quarter-finals of this season’s FA Cup.
Sean Dyche’s men have struggled to really push away from the relegation battle in the Premier League so far this season, such is the ever-changing landscape of the top flight. Still, they’ve proven themselves to be more than capable of springing a surprise when many pundits least expect it, and progression in their cup adventure could serve as a really significant boost for the rest of their campaign.
Burnley’s FA Cup run this season began at the start of the year in dramatic fashion, as they just about managed to squeak past MK Dons on penalties in the third round. They were ever so slightly more impressive in the fourth when paired up against fellow Premier League strugglers Fulham, registering a 3-0 win to reach the last 16.
Between managerial changes and fluctuating results in the Championship, it’s been a complicated few months for Bournemouth Football Club. They’ve gone from promotion hopefuls to just about clinging onto their place in the top six which is quite the contrast – but it’s also to be expected in a league as relentlessly unpredictable as England’s second tier. If they get past Burnley, though, the talks of an underdog run to the final won’t seem too unlikely after all.
A 4-1 domination of Oldham Athletic was the perfect way for the Cherries to announce themselves to the rest of the competition in the FA Cup this season, but in the fourth round, they received a draw that many wanted to avoid when they were pitted against giant killers Crawley Town. Thankfully for them, they avoided any disasters with a professional 2-1 win.
FA Cup games are so often very scrappy as a direct result of the stakes involved, and we don’t expect this one to be any different. Burnley are the Premier League side here and they’ll fancy their chances of progressing against a Bournemouth team who are still trying to figure out their identity in their ongoing promotion push. We’re backing the Clarets to progress, taking a big step towards reaching Wembley in the process.
Our official scoreline prediction is going to be 2-0 Burnley, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket – but we still think Bournemouth are going to land a few blows on the hosts before the quality and experience of Burnley takes over and guides them to victory in Lancashire.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 5/4 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 7/10 (All odds are taken from bet365).
