Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (11/8) vs Wolves (21/10)

We are backing the home win

When: Saturday, 6th March 2021, Kick-off 17:30

Where: Villa Park

On Saturday evening, Aston Villa will look to boost their hopes of finishing in the European spots in the Premier League when they host Wolves at Villa Park in a Midlands derby match.

Aston Villa

The Villans will still feel like they have a chance of sealing a top-six spot this season, despite an underwhelming recent run of form in the Premier League. Before Thursday nights games Villa are four points off the top-six, so Dean Smith’s team could find themselves a long way behind the teams above them.

The visitors need to turn their form around if they are to improve their slim chances of a top-six finish, as they have won just one of their last four league matches, including suffering defeats against Leicester City and Sheffield United last time out. The poor run of form has coincided with the absence through injury of star midfielder Jack Grealish. The midfielder is still a doubt for this clash.

Villa’s recent home form has not helped the Villans chances of playing European football next season, as Smith’s have lost two of their last three league matches on home soil.

Wolves

The visitors continue to underwhelm this season, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are currently 12th place in the Premier League table. They are five points behind Saturday’s opponents in the English top-flight but have played two more games than the Villans.

The visitor’s form had improved slightly when they mounted a five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League until they suffered a 4-1 hammering at league leaders Manchester City last Tuesday.

Wolves have struggled for goals in recent months in the absence of star striker Raul Jimenez. Portuguese duo Ruben Neves and Pedro Neto are joint-top goalscorers for the visitors in the Premier League, having scored just five goals each.

The visitors have struggled to pick up away wins in the top-flight of late, as they have won just one of their last nine matches on their travels in the Premier League. The fact that Wolves have kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 away games in the top-flight has contributed to their recent poor results on their travels.

One positive for Wolves is that they have won two of their last three meetings between these two teams. However, Villa won the reverse fixture 1-0 at Molineux, after the visitors did the double over the Villans last season.

Conclusion

Villa’s form has definitely been affected by the absence of Grealish, but he could still return for this fixture. We are backing the Villans to record a narrow victory in a low-scoring clash, so we are also recommending under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 11/8 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
