Prediction and odds for the game: Bayern Munich (3/5) vs Dortmund (4/1)

We are backing the home win

When: Saturday, 6th March 2021, Kick-off 17:30

Where: The Allianz Arena

On Saturday evening, Bayern Munich host perennial rivals Dortmund at the Allianz Arena, in what is a massive ‘Der Klassiker’ in the Bundesliga for both teams.

Bayern Munich

The reigning German champions may well have a title challenge this season in the Bundesliga, but from RB Leipzig and not Saturday’s visitors, which has been more often the case in recent seasons in the top-flight. Bayern are still two points clear of second-place RB Leipzig in the fight for the title.

The Bavarians suffered a slight dip in form in mid-February with a 3-3 draw against Arminia Bielefeld and a 2-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt. However, since the underwhelming results Hansi Flick’s team have hammered Lazio 4-1 and also mauled Koln 5-1. The wins blew away any idea that the home side are on a poor run of form.

The win over Koln saw goal-machine Robert Lewandowski score a brace that took the Polish international to 28 goals in just 22 Bundesliga appearances. The 32-year-old of course made his name with Dortmund before joining Bayern as a free agent in 2014.

The recent history of this fixture bodes well for the champions, as they have won five of their last six meetings with Dortmund in all competitions, including the last four encounters.

Dortmund

The visitors have endured a poor campaign so far. BVB were once again expected to challenge Bayern for the German title this season. Instead, they seemingly face a fight for a Champions League spot. The visitors are currently fifth in the table, three points adrift of fourth-place Eintracht Frankfurt in the race for the top-four spots.

However, despite their poor season so far, there are now signs of Dortmund’s top form returning. A 1-0 midweek cup win at Monchengladbach means that Edin Terzic’s team has now won four straight games in all competitions. They also head into this clash on the back of a three-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, including winning their last two matches without conceding.

One facet of their game that needs to improve is their form on their travels. The visitors have won just one of their last four away games in the German top-flight while suffering three defeats in the process. A 4-0 win at doomed Schalke in their last away match in the Bundesliga ended a three-game losing run on the road.

Conclusion

In many ways, both teams head into this clash in good spirits. Bayern look to be back to close to their best, while Dortmund form has improved immensely of late. We are backing the home win, as Bayern are formidable at the Allianz Arena and always seem to have a psychological edge over BVB. The other bet we fancy is Jadon Sancho to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 15/8. The England international has hit a goalscoring run of form, scoring in his last three outings for the visitors.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 3/5 and/or Jadon Sancho to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 15/8. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
