Prediction and odds for the game: Dortmund (6/5) vs Sevilla (21/10)

We are backing the home win

When: Tuesday, 9th March 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Signal Iduna Park

On Tuesday night, Dortmund host Sevilla in the second leg of the last-16 of the Champions League. The first leg saw BVB establish a 3-2 win, which makes the German team favourites to make it through to the quarter-finals of European football’s elite competition.

Dortmund

Edin Terzic’s team heads into this clash on the back of a 4-2 defeat at arch-rivals Bayern Munich. The defeat was slightly harsh on BVB, as the Bavarians scored goals in the 88th and 90th minute to seal the victory. The defeat saw a four-game winning run come to an end. They will be hoping the annual defeat at the Allianz Arena will only be a slight blip, as things were looking up for BVB before the loss.

Norwegian wonderkid Erling Haaland continued his prolific campaign in front of goal against Bayern, scoring a brace against the reigning champions. The 20-year-old has been prolific in the Champions League, scoring eight times in five appearances this season. The youngster picked up a knock last time out but is expected to feature in this clash.

Dortmund have a good recent record in the Champions League, as BVB are unbeaten in six games in the competition, having recorded five in the process.

Sevilla

After a good run of form earlier in the season, the Andalusians head into this vital clash on the back of a poor run. In fact, Julen Lopetegui’s team have now won just one of their last five matches in all competitions, suffering four defeats. Last time out the visitors suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Elche. The poor run of form has put Sevilla’s once comfortable position in La Liga’s top-four in doubt.

Sevilla have a recent inconsistent recent record in the Champions League, as the visitors head into this game on the back of two defeats in their last nine matches in European football’s elite competition. They have also won four of their previous nine games in the Champions League.

The visitors have been difficult to beat on their travels in this competition, as Sevilla are unbeaten in their last six matches on their travels, winning three and drawing games in the process. Despite a reputation for being defensively solid, the visitors have kept just two clean sheets in ten away matches in the Champions League.

Conclusion

Dortmund produced a decent display against Bayern, despite defeat against the Bavarians. If Haaland features, as expected, they have to be fancied to win this clash. We are backing BVB to record a narrow victory. We believe that this game will be high-scoring, so we are backing over 2.5 goals scored too, as the home side especially has been prolific of late. Sevilla also have to attack in an attempt to overcome the 3-2 deficit from the first leg.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 6/5 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at 4/7. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
