On Saturday night, the Czech Republic and Belgium go head-to-head in Prague in Group E of qualifying for the World Cup.

Czech Republic

The home side kicked off their Group E qualifying campaign with a 6-2 win at Estonia, with West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek grabbing a hat-trick. The win continued a promising three-game winning run, after wins over Israel and Slovakia. The Czech Republic has also now won their last three games in qualifying, scoring at least two goals in each of the victories.

Soucek has certainly been an attacking threat, as he also scored in their last international a 2-0 win over Slovakia, having scored nine Premier League goals for his club this season.

The Czech Republic have a stellar recent home record, having recorded victories in six of their last eight matches on home soil. However, they have struggled for home wins in qualifiers, winning just two of their previous nine qualifying games. Their recent home qualifiers have been relatively high-scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in their previous three matches on their own patch.

Belgium

The Red Devils started their qualifying campaign with a 3-1 home win over Wales. The victory was their fifth straight win international win and the fifth consecutive game that the Red Devils have scored at least two goals. Their record goalscorer Romelu Lukaku scored last time out, his third strike in his last two international appearances.

Belgium are now unbeaten 21 in World Cup qualifiers, recording 18 games in the process. The win over Wales last time out was also their sixth straight win in qualifying.

Robert Martinez’s team have won seven of their last eight international on their travels. Their only blip was a 2-1 defeat at Wembley against England. The Red Devils have been prolific away from home of late, having scored at least two goals in ten of their last 11 matches.

The Red Devils have been formidable on their travels in World Cup qualifiers of late too, winning their last ten away qualifiers, while scoring at least two goals in each of the victories.

Conclusion

The Czech Republic will be pleased to have won their opening game in such an empathic manner. However, they would have expected to beat Estonia and Belgium are in a completely different league. Belgium just have so much quality and we are backing Martinez’s team to record a win, although the home side may make the game relatively close. The other bet we recommend is for both teams to score at odds of 4/5.

Verdict: We are backing the away victory at odds of 3/5 and/or both teams to score at odds of 4/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
