Prediction and odds for the game: Burnley (9/1) vs Liverpool (1/4)

We are backing an away win

When: Wednesday, 19th May 2021, Kick-off 20:15

Where: Turf Moor

On Wednesday night, Liverpool take their top-four challenge to Burnley’s Turf Moor. The Reds now look to be in a decent position to make the Champions League next season.

Burnley

Sean Dyche’s team now have very little to play for in their remaining two games after their Premier League was secured. A 4-0 home defeat against Leeds last time out in the Premier League means that the Clarets have now won just two of their last seven league matches, suffering defeats in the other matches.

The heavy loss to Leeds once again illustrated the home sides defensive vulnerabilities, as the Clarets conceded at least two goals in all those recent league defeats. While defensive issues have been their main problem of late, it’s at the other end of the field that Dyche’s team have struggled for much of the season. Only two teams in the Premier League have scored fewer goals, Fulham and Sheffield United and both suffered relegation.

Burnley’s home record has also not been great in recent months, as the Clarets have failed to win in their last nine league matches at Turf Moor.

Liverpool

The Reds now look to be in a promising position to qualify for the Champions League next season, despite some poor form early in the year. Jurgen Klopp’s team needed a stoppage-time winner from goalkeeper Alisson Becker to defeat doomed West Brom 2-1 last time out. The goal could have big implications at the end of the season.

The win at the Hawthorns coupled with results elsewhere moved the former champions to within a point of fourth-place Chelsea and three of third-place Leicester. The pair meet on Tuesday night, which is great news for the Reds. All the visitors can do now is win their two remaining league games.

Despite some woeful form in early 2021, Liverpool are now eight matches unbeaten in the Premier League, having won their last three league matches. There are also signs that the visitors have rediscovered their attacking touch, as Klopp’s team has now scored at least two goals in their last three outings.

The Reds recent away form in the English top-flight has been good, as they are unbeaten in six matches on their travels, having recorded five wins in the process.

Conclusion

Liverpool seem to have found some decent form at a vital time in the season. Burnley have very little to play for this season, but neither did West Brom in Liverpool’s last game and they gave the visitors a scare. We do fancy Klopp’s team to win, so we are backing the visitors to win. We are also backing over 2.5 goals, as Liverpool will offer a big attacking threat, while Burnley have been dire in defence of late.

Our verdict: We are backing Liverpool half-time/full-time at odds of 8/11 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
