Prediction and odds for the game: Villarreal (15/4) v Manchester United (5/6)

We are backing the Manchester United win

When: Wednesday, 26th May 2021, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Stadion Energa Gdansk

On Wednesday night, Villarreal and Manchester United go head-to-head in Gdansk in the final of the Europa League. The Premier League outfit are the favourites to win the trophy, but the Yellow Submarine have been tough nuts to crack in the Europa League this season.

Villarreal

The Yellow Submarine endured disappointment in their efforts to qualify for the Europa League, as they finished seventh La Liga, missing out on the top six by just three points. However, they will feature in the inaugural Europa Conference League next season, if of course, they suffer defeat in this clash. However, a win would see them playing Champions League football next season, so there is a lot at stake in this clash.

Unai Emery’s team have been highly impressive in the Europa League this season. They are undefeated in 14 Europa League games, recording an impressive 12 victories. The Yellow Submarine have been prolific of late in the competition, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last nine matches. Forwards Paco Alcacer and Gerard Moreno have both scored six goals each in the Europa League this season. The potential absence of United’s star centre-back Harry Maguire may leave space for the pair to add to their goal tallies in the competition.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have enjoyed a good campaign, but silverware in the trophy cabinet would certainly solidify their relative success this season. The priority for this season would have been to finish closer to the champions in the top-flight and win a trophy. A victory on Wednesday night would surely mean mission complete for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

United kicked off the season in the Champions League and dropped down into the Europa League after finishing third in their group. Since then, the men from Manchester have enjoyed a good campaign in European football’s secondary competition.

The Red Devils have won five of their eight games in the competition this season. They were seven matches undefeated in the competition in the current campaign until a 3-2 defeat at Roma in the last round of the competition.

United have been prolific of late in the competition, as they have found the net twice or more in their previous four games in the Europa League.

Conclusion

These two teams have met four times in the past, all in the Champions League and incredibly all the games have finished 0-0 after 90 minutes. We believe that game could be a rather different affair due to the firepower in both teams. We are backing Manchester United to record a narrow victory. The other bet we are backing is over 2.5 goals, as once again there seem to be too many good attacking players for this match to produce a dull encounter.

Verdict: We are backing the Manchester United win at odds of 5/6 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at evens (All odds are taken from Bet365)
