Prediction & odds for the game: Netherlands (9/20) v Scotland (6/1) – ST is backing the home win

When: Wednesday, 2nd June @ 7.45pm K.O

Where: Estadio Algarve

The Netherlands and Scotland will continue their preparations for this summer’s Euros when they meet tomorrow night.

Netherlands

The Dutch have taken their embarrassment of not qualifying for the 2016 Euros and 2018 World Cup and used it as fuel. They went to prove to the watching world that they could, one day, proclaim themselves to be one of international football’s most elite sides – but building such a reputation is going to take plenty of time and effort. They’ve got individual stars, but blending that into a successful squad will be a challenge.

In terms of their group at the Euros, the Netherlands shouldn’t necessarily be afraid of anyone. They’re opening game will see them enter as the favourites against Ukraine before a four-day rest, and then, they’ll play Austria in another fixture that favours the Oranje. They’ll finish off their group stage campaign with perhaps the biggest gift of all – a battle with minnows North Macedonia.

Scotland

The Scots are likely just happy to be at the big dance and we can’t say we blame them. For a few decades now they’ve been hoping, waiting and praying for the day they can do some damage at the Euros or World Cup, and that moment is almost upon us. Steve Clarke knows that they’re the underdogs and because of that, he’s likely to motivate his players to go out there and prove all of their doubters wrong.

Scotland will be eager to put a dent in Czech Republic’s Euro dreams when they meet on June 14. Alas, we all know the old enemy is the one they’re gunning for, which is why the game against England on June 18 is so unbelievably huge. If they’re still in the qualification mix by that point then they’ll go into the Croatia game with a lot of pressure – but a lot of heart, too.

Conclusion

Both teams will want to build some momentum prior to the tournament taking place but at the same time, there’s also a chance they just want to avoid any further injuries to their respective squads. With that in mind it feels incredibly likely that we’re going to end up with both teams settling as opposed to going after the win, leading to a draw that may well fail to entertain in the way we all desire. Still, when the Euros do eventually roll around, we expect both to produce fireworks.

Our official scoreline prediction is a 1-1 draw, meaning we’ll stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 10/3 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 5/4 (All odds are taken from bet365).
