The Premier League is where every English club wants to be. Last season West Brom and Fulham joined Sheffield United in suffering relegation to the English Championship. Here are the teams who are the favourites to drop into the second tier:

All odds are to suffer relegation this season and are taken from Bet365*

Norwich (10/11)

The Canaries are the favourites to suffer relegation this season. The team from Norfolk have lost last season’s star player Emilian Buendia to Aston Villa and their recruitment so far this summer has been unconvincing. Just like their last spell in the top-flight, their stay could be a short one.

City were poor in defence in their last spell in the English top-flight. However, the Canaries had the second-best defensive record in the second tier. Whether that defensive record can transfer to the English top-flight is doubtful.

The Hornets are another newly promoted team looking to avoid a quick return to the Championship. Their headline signings have been former Tottenham full-back Danny Rose and former Bournemouth striker Joshua King. Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis may well be a wildcard for the Hornets, as they look to avoid being stung by the spectre of relegation this season.

Despite the new signings, there are still major question marks over the general quality of the Hornets squad.

Brentford (11/10)

Thomas Frank’s team have finally made it to the English top-flight after two impressive campaigns in the Championship. The Bees play attractive, attacking football, which some may believe could be slightly naïve in the Premier League.

Their style of play has been compared to Leeds when they first earned promotion to the top-flight. Their big summer signing was that of versatile Norwegian international Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic.

Brentford are the least favoured top-flight new boys for relegation simply because they are a team that scores a lot of goals. In striker Ivan Toney they have a player who scored 31 goals in the Championship last season.

Crystal Palace (7/4)

This summer has been one of changes for the Eagles. Veteran head coach Roy Hodgson has kept the Palace ship steady in recent seasons. However, this summer he departed and former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has arrived as the new boss.

Several of the club’s senior players departed at the end of their contracts, including James McCarthy and Gary Cahill. The Eagles have brought in Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher.

It may take time for the new players and head coach to settle. It remains to be seen what effect the changes will have on the Eagles fortunes.

Key player: Wilfried Zaha

Burnley (5/2)

For years, the Clarets have been seen by many as relegation candidates. However, the managerial acumen of head coach Sean Dyche has always steered the team from Lancashire clear of trouble.

The only new arrivals are goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy and centre-back Nathan Collins. There have been no big exits either though, so there is little reason the Clarets cannot once survive the drop.
