Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (1/12) vs Morecambe (21/1)

We are backing Lucas Moura to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 11/10

When: Sunday 9 January 2022, Kick-off 14:00

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham will hope to avoid a giant-killing, as League One strugglers Morecambe visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the FA Cup third round.

Tottenham

The North London’s team recent good run of form ended last time out in the League Cup semi-final first leg, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at London rivals, Chelsea. The defeat ended a five-game unbeaten run for Spurs in all competitions.

Finishing in the Premier League’s top-four is Tottenham’s priority this season. However, Antonio Conte’s team will be keen for a cup run considering that their last trophy was a League Cup win in season 2007/08.

Tottenham have been highly inconsistent in the FA Cup in recent seasons, as they have won just four games in nine outings in the competition. On the flip-side, though, Spurs have lost just one of their last ten games in this competition in 90 minutes. Last season they exited the competition via a 5-4 extra-time defeat at Premier League rivals Everton.

The home side is without forward Heung-Min Son, who will be sidelined for the next two weeks due to a muscle injury.

Morecambe

Like Tottenham, Morecambe many have bigger fish to fry than playing in the FA Cup. However, this game could prove to be a welcome distraction from what is turning out to be a difficult League One campaign for the north west outfit.

The Shrimps are currently in 19th place in the League One standings, just a point clear of the relegation zone after a recent poor run of league form. However, Stephen Robinson’s team ended a four-game winless run last time out by recording a 4-3 home win over Doncaster Rovers. The win should send the visitors into this clash in good spirits.

The visitors have a decent recent record in the FA Cup, as they have won three of their last five games in the competition in 90 minutes, having also won once after extra-time. They exited the competition at this stage last season, as they suffered a 4-0 defeat in the English capital against Chelsea.

Morecambe don’t have a great recent away record in the FA Cup, winning just two of their last ten matches on their travels in the famous old competition. They have also lost seven of those ten recent away games.

Conclusion

Tottenham should win this game comfortably, but the magic of the FA Cup is that there are big shocks. We don’t think that will happen in this game though. We are looking to the goals market for our recommendations.

The first bet we are backing is for both teams to score, as we believe Morecambe could cause Spurs defensive problems. The other bet is for Lucas Moura to be anytime goalscorer, as the Brazilian has been in good form of late.

Our Tips: We are backing both teams to score at odds of 5/4 and/or Lucas Moura to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
