Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (7/10) vs Aston Villa (4/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 3/1

When: Monday 10 January 2022, Kick-off 19:55

Where: Old Trafford

On Monday night, Manchester United host Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Cup.

Manchester United

The Red Devils are in something a crisis mode at the moment after rumours of squad discontent. A 1-0 home defeat against Wolves last time out ended an eight-game unbeaten run for United in all competitions. The result also means that the men from Manchester have won just two of their last five games in all competitions.

Despite talk of crisis and player unhappiness, Manchester United are still in the thick of the race for the Champions League spots in the Premier League this season.

Most associated with the club would certainly not turn down the chance of silverware this season. However, just progressing to the next round will offer a challenge against former foe Steven Gerrard.

United have a mixed recent record in the FA Cup, as the Red Devils have won just two of their last six games over 90 minutes in the competition.

The Red Devils could be without Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, and Eric Bailly for this clash. Phil Jones could continue in the centre of defence.

Aston Villa

The appointment of Steven Gerrard as the Villans head coach lifted everybody connected to the club. However, recent results have been poor, as the Villans have now lost three of their last four matches. Last time out the Midlands side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Brentford. The other defeats were more understandable, as they were against Liverpool and Chelsea.

However, despite the recent defeats, Villa looks to be safely in mid-table and look unlikely to be dragged into the fight for survival. A good cup run could well be the perfect proof that Villa are moving in the right direction under former Rangers head coach Gerrard.

However, if they are to progress Villa will have to change recent history, as they have exited the competition at the third round in the last six seasons. The team from the Midlands have also conceded at least two goals in all six of the exits too.

Villa have also failed to win in their last six away games in the FA Cup, suffering five defeats and picking up one draw in the process.

Conclusion

Neither team heads into this game in great form. They could both do with a morale-boosting win. However, we are predicting that this clash will end in a draw. Our other recommendation is to back Cristiano Ronaldo to be an anytime goalscorer.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at 3/1 and/or Cristiano Ronaldo to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 21/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
