Prediction and odds for the game: Tottenham (7/4) vs Chelsea (31/20)

When: Wednesday 12 January 2022, Kick-off 19:45

Where: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Wednesday night, London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The first leg finished 2-0 to the visitors.

Tottenham

Antonio Conte’s team has a mountain to climb after the first leg to get back into this clash. It would be a major achievement to turn the tie around. The turnaround would be more extraordinary considering that the north London team has been inconsistent of late. A record of four wins from their last eight matches in all competitions illustrates their inconsistency.

Spurs bounced back from the first leg defeat by recording a 3-1 win over struggling League One outfit Morecambe in the FA Cup third round. However, they needed late goals to secure passage to the fourth round of the competition.

Tottenham don’t exactly have a great recent record in the Carabao Cup, as they have won just one of their last five matches over 90 minutes.

Spurs look set to be without Cristian Romero and Heung-Min Son through injury, while reportedly Ajax target Steven Bergwijn is also an injury doubt.

Chelsea

The Blues are undefeated in ten competitive matches, but five of those matches have ended in draws. A 5-1 FA Cup third-round win over Chesterfield at least meant that Thomas Tuchel’s team head into this game on the back of consecutive wins.

The match also saw Chelsea continue their recent good run of goalscoring form, as the Blues have now scored at least two goals in five of their last six matches in all competitions. However, on the flip side, the visitors usually solid defence has just also managed just one clean sheet in their last five games competitive games.

Like their opponents, Chelsea have not exactly been convincing in the Carabao Cup in recent years, as they have won just four of their last seven matches in 90 minutes. The Blues have needed penalty kicks to see off both Aston Villa and Southampton in this season’s competition.

Chelsea will once again be without the first-choice full-back duo of Ben Chilwell and Reece James. Centre-back Trevoh Chalobah has joined the duo on the injury list, while Edouard Mendy misses out due to his participation at the AFCON.

Conclusion

The first leg result has made it highly difficult for Spurs to make it through to the final. We are predicting that this game will finish in a low-scoring draw, which would be enough to send Chelsea through to the final.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 5/2 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 9/10. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
