Prediction and odds for the game: Aston Villa (Evens) vs Burnley (11/4)

We are backing the home win

When: Thursday 19 May 2022, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Villa Park

On Thursday night, Aston Villa and Burnley go head-to-head at Villa Park, as the visitors look for vital points to get them out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Aston Villa

The Villans have endured an inconsistent Premier League campaign and currently sit in 14th place in the English top-flight table. Steven Gerrard’s team has enjoyed mixed fortunes of late in the Premier League, but have lost just one of their last five league matches. However, Villa’s last win came in the reverse fixture, just under two weeks ago, as the Villans recorded a 3-1 win at Turf Moor.

The men from the Midlands have struggled for results at Villa Park in the Premier League of late, as they have won just two of their last ten home games in the English top-flight. That poor run includes losing three of their last five league outings at Villa Park. Everybody connected with the club will be hoping to improve that record.

Burnley

The visitors head into this game in 18th place in the table, but just a point behind 17th place Leeds, who have played an extra game and two behind 16th place Everton, who also play on Thursday night.

The Clarets enjoyed a slight new head coach lift when Sean Dyche left the club to be replaced by Mike Jackson. However, the team from Lancashire head into this clash on the back of two straight defeats against Villa and last time out Tottenham.

The 1-0 defeat against Spurs continued a low-scoring trend for Burnley in their recent league matches, as five of their last seven Premier League matches have produced under 2.5 goals. The lack of goals in Burnley’s recent league games is not a massive surprise, though, as only bottom of the table Norwich has scored fewer goals than the Clarets in the top-flight this season.

A poor recent away record in the Premier League has also hampered Burnley’s chances of survival, as the visitors head into this clash on the back of just two away wins all season in the English top-flight. That poor includes suffering defeat in three of their last five matches on their travels in the Premier League.

Conclusion

While Burnley looks desperate for points and Villa don’t have much to play for but pride, Villa showed in the reverse fixture that they are not yet on the beach. We are backing the Villans to record a victory. The other bet we recommend is for Villa striker Ollie Watkins to be an anytime goalscorer. The 26-year-old has scored three goals in his last four league appearances, including in the reverse fixture.

Our Tips: We are backing the home win at evens and/or Ollie Watkins to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 7/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
