Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (Evens) vs Real Madrid (5/2)

We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4

When: Saturday 28 May 2022, Kick-off 20:00

Where: Stade de France

On Saturday night, Liverpool and Real Madrid clash at the Stade de France in Paris in the final of the Champions League.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s team have already won a domestic cup double of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Both victories were achieved by beating Chelsea in penalty shootouts. However, last weekend the Reds finished second place to Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

A 3-1 win over Wolves on the final day of the Premier League campaign means that the men from Merseyside are unbeaten in 18 games in all competitions.

When it comes to the Champions League, Liverpool had a comfortable journey to Saint-Denis. The Reds defeated Spanish side Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate to book their place in the competition’s final.

A significant factor in Liverpool’s progression to the final has been their potent attacking play, as they have scored at least two goals in 11 of their last 12 matches in the Champions League.

Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti wrapped up in the Spanish top-flight title weeks ago. The early triumph meant that the experienced Italian head coach could rest several of his star players in the last few weeks of the league campaign.

The fact that Los Blancos won only one of their last four league games will mean very little to the highly experienced group of players. Many of the current squad have been involved in numerous Champions League wins and know how to win the competition.

Of course, the men from Madrid are the kings of the European Cup, winning the competition on 13 occasions. The next most successful club in the competition’s history is AC Milan, having lifted the trophy on seven occasions.

Unlike their opponents, Real Madrid had an arduous journey to the final. Ancelotti’s team faced PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City in the competition’s knockout stages. The pick of the wins was an incredible late comeback against City in the semi-final to win 6-5 in extra time. However, they have had to show resilience to come back to win in all the ties.

Conclusion

While Liverpool are the favourites to win the final, Real Madrid are certainly not an easy opponent for Klopp’s team. In fact, the Spanish giants are unbeaten against the Reds in five competitive meetings. That run includes a 3-1 final win over Liverpool in this competition. Most of Los Blancos’ squad are experienced players whom the occasion will not phase.

This should be a relatively close game, so we are backing it to end all square. We can also see this game being a cagey affair, so we are taking a punt on under 2.5 goals scored in 90 minutes.

Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 11/4 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
