Dutch giants Ajax have hijacked West Ham United’s move for young Manchester City forward Carlos Borges.

The 19-year-old’s direct running and excellent finishing ability for the Cityzen’s youth academy has made many clubs around Europe sit up and take notice. As reported by Soccer Times last month, Portuguese under-19 international Borges was expected to sign for West Ham but has since had his move hijacked by Dutch side Ajax at the very last minute according to Fabrizio Romano.

Carlos Borges set to move to Ajax

The youngster flew to Amsterdam yesterday to complete his medical with Ajax after the Hammers failed to get a deal over the line.

The fee is likely to be a touch over $21.5m with the Portuguese starlet set to sign a deal until June 2027. City will keep buy-back and sell-on clauses in Borges’ contract at Ajax in line with the club’s policy on promising youngsters.

The news is a Hammer blow for David Moyes, who has also seen a potential move for Southampton and England midfielder James Ward-Prowse fall through.
