Dortmund v Monchengladbach preview, prediction and odds
|

On Saturday evening, Dortmund will face a test of their mental strength, as they host surprise Bundesliga leaders Monchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund (Odds of 4/9 for victory)

Dortmund have enjoyed a strange run of form recently. Lucian Favre’s team are undefeated in their last four Bundesliga outings, but they have drawn their last three league outings 2-2 against Eintracht Frankfurt, Werder Bremen and last time out at surprise package Freiburg.

A high-scoring theme has developed in Dortmund’s games in the German top-flight of late, with 13 of their last 14 league matches producing over 2.5 goals. A major contributing factor to those high-scoring encounters has been Dortmund sheer attacking power, as BVB have scored at least twice in their last 20 outings in the German top-flight.

Spanish striker Paco Alcacer has been in red-hot scoring form this season, scoring five times in six appearances for the home side in the Bundesliga. Unfortunately for BVB, the former Barcelona man is a doubt for this clash.

Dortmund have been formidable opponents at the Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga of late, winning 16 of their 20 matches on home soil, while suffering just one defeat in the process. Once again, their attacking prowess has been on full display on home soil, where they have scored at least twice in their last 20 home games in the German top-flight.

Monchengladbach (Odds of 11/2 for victory)

The visitors have made a strong start to life under new coach Marco Rose. The Foals are currently top of the Bundesliga table, having recorded wins in their last four league outings, including last time out when they hammered Augsburg 5-1. The game saw Gladbach score at least two goals for the third straight league game.

The visitors have been strong in defence this season in the Bundesliga, as only Wolfsburg have conceded fewer goals than Rose’s team. At the other end of the pitch, only Bayern Munich and Dortmund have scored more goals this season.

Gladbach’s away form has played a key role in their position at the top of the Bundesliga table, as the visitors have won their last four matches on their travels. They have also been relatively prolific, scoring at least three times in three of their last four matches.

Although things seem to be going well for the visitors, there is one negative for the Foals, in that they have suffered defeat in 12 of their last 13 visits to the Signal Iduna in all competitions.

Conclusion

Monchengladbach may be flying in the league, but the Signal Iduna Park is a ground that has not been kind to them in recent years. We are going to back Dortmund to come out on top in this clash. We are also backing the over 3.5 goals at odds of 10/11. Neither offers much value, but they look like fairly logical punts on our behalf.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 4/9 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds were taken from Bet365).
