Tottenham Hotspur will aim to get back on track in the Premier League as they prepare to square off with Watford this weekend.

Tottenham (2/5)

The Tottenham side that made it through to the Champions League final just a few short months ago seems to have vanished into thin air, and they’ve been replaced by a pretty poor squad. In their latest six-game run-in they’ve only been able to win once, and even that was a less than inspiring 2-1 triumph over Southampton.

They drew against Colchester in the Carabao Cup before being knocked out, and they also slipped up in the Champions League against Olympiakos. Their defeats haven’t exactly been subtle with 2-1 and 3-0 losses to Leicester and Brighton respectively to go alongside a 7-2 demolition courtesy of Bayern Munich.

Despite the depressing statistics, though, the evidence does seem to favour an over 2.5 goals outcome.

Watford (13/2)

In the years to come Watford fans will look back on their memorable 3-2 comeback win over Wolves at Wembley and view it as the point in which they peaked as a football club. The reason for that comes in the form of their performances since then, which have left them stranded at the bottom of the Premier League table without a win yet this season.

They’re still in the Carabao Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win over Swansea that came by the skin of their teeth, and to be fair to them, they did secure draws against Newcastle, Sheffield United and Arsenal, with the latter being particularly impressive. However, a 2-0 loss to Wolves was nothing compared to the humbling 8-0 battering they took from champions Manchester City.

Again, though, while it can be touch and go, over 2.5 goals isn’t the worst shout.

Conclusion

It certainly feels as if both sides have their backs against the wall in more ways than one, but when push comes to shove, we can’t picture anything other than Tottenham getting the win in front of their faithful (and slightly frustrated) supporters.

Spurs are just more fluid throughout the pitch and in the form of Watford, they’ve found a team that are in even worse form than themselves. It’s quite obvious to see the gulf in quality between the teams and while you could argue that rarely matters on a stage as big as the Premier League, Pochettino isn’t going to allow his team to roll over as they’ve done far too often already this season.

We also believe that committing to over 2.5 goals is going to be a solid bet in this one, and while conventional logic would suggest that Spurs will run riot, we do believe their defensive issues will allow the Hornets to get themselves on the scoresheet.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 2/5 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10. (All odds are taken from bet365).
