Arsenal are set to host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates this weekend, as the Gunners take on Nuno’s men in a huge game for both sides.

Arsenal (7/10)

Arsenal’s surge towards a place in the top four isn’t so much a surge anymore, and it feels more like they’re hobbling towards the Christmas period. That’s the last thing Unai Emery needs as he continues to fall under pressure from the fans regarding what their expectations actually are for the team. Once they get through to January they’ll be able to re-evaluate their current situation, but they need to make sure they aren’t too far off the pace by the time the New Year arrives.

With just three wins in their last six games, Arsenal haven’t exactly been finding the consistency they desire – with two of those wins being narrow ones over Vitoria and Bournemouth, and the other being a battering of Standard Liege. They’ve slipped up against Crystal Palace and Manchester United with a point earned in both, with their sole loss coming against Sheffield United.

Wolves (7/2)

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans can’t exactly complain all too much about the current state of the team, and it doesn’t feel like they’ll have too many reasons to worry as we look ahead to their immediate future. They’re contending on three different counts at this moment in time, and in games like this, they really do seem to thrive. They always seem to step it up a notch against the big teams, and this should be no exception as they go to the Emirates with no fear.

Wolves’ recent unbeaten run isn’t one to scoff at, with two wins in the Europa League over Slovan Bratislava and Besiktas to their name – both away from home. In the Premier League they saw off the challenge of Manchester City and Watford in impressive wins, but could only manage a point against both Newcastle and Southampton.

Conclusion

Arsenal are capable of getting the job done when absolutely necessary, and we’d call this necessary. It may take until injury time based on recent evidence, but we think Unai Emery’s men will be able to get the job done. Both sides have tough games to contend with during the week, but we’ve just got a feeling that the Villa vs Wolves game is going to be a little bit more physical. One way or another, though, we’re backing the Gunners to get themselves over the finish line.

Both teams have some lethal attacking threats, and as such, we think that the over 2.5 goal ratio is going to be met with relative ease. After all, defensive stability isn’t what these two sides have been known for this season.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 7/10 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from bet365).
