On Sunday afternoon, the Premier League’s top-two Liverpool and Manchester City meet at Anfield, in a game that could be pivotal in the title race.

Liverpool (Odds of 13/8 for victory)

The Reds are six points clear of reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the table. Another win would put Jurgen Klopp’s team in complete control of the title race.

The Merseysider’s have won ten of their 11 Premier League outings this season and 19 of their last 20 league matches. A key factor in the Reds running run has been their attacking prowess, as they have scored at least twice in 18 of their last 20 league matches on home soil. The one negative for the home side is that they have not kept a clean sheet in seven league games.

Liverpool are renowned for their home form, as they are unbeaten in 43 league matches at Anfield. They have also won their last 12 Premier League outings on home soil, scoring at least twice in all of the wins.

The Reds have not beaten the visitors in the last three meetings between the pair. However, they have also lost just once in 90 minutes in six games against the Merseysider’s.

Manchester City (Odds of 8/5 for victory)

The visitors head into this game as slight favourites, despite Liverpool’s excellent recent record. The Citizens heads into this clash on the back of five league wins from their last six matches. Pep Guardiola’s team have also scored at least twice in five of the previous six games in the English top-flight.

Atalanta held the Citizens to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League in their last outing, with goalkeeper Claudio Bravo sent-off after the Chilean replaced the injured Ederson at half-time. The game at the San Siro was a rare occasion when City did not record a victory and score big in any competition.

The Citizens have also been in good form on their travels in the top-flight, winning 11 of their 12 matches on their travels in the Premier League. Their only blip was a shock 3-2 defeat at struggling Norwich. Guardiola’s team has been highly prolific of late on home soil, scoring at least twice in eight of their last ten matches. However, the visitors have kept just one clean sheet in their last four away games in the top-flight, which does not bode well for a trip to Anfield.

The fact that they could be without first-choice goalkeeper Ederson due to injury could be a major blow for the visitors. They are already without Aymeric Laporte and Rodri due to injury too.

Conclusion

Liverpool face City at a good time, as the prospective absence of Ederson, Laporte and Rodri is likely to make Guardiola’s team weaker in defence. The home attacking players will be looking forward to another fruitful afternoon.

The Reds have been just getting over the line in games of late. However, we are backing Klopp’s side to rise to the challenge and record a victory at odds of 13/8. The game looks like a good one for over 2.5 goals, which you can back at odds of 4/6.

Verdict: Back the home win at 13/8 and/or the over 2.5 goals scored at 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
