Where: Mestalla Stadium

Valencia and Chelsea will battle it out in a huge UEFA Champions League clash as both attempt to force their way into the top spot in Group H.

Valencia

While you can never truly count Valencia out of any game, mainly due to their position within the history of Spanish and European football, they certainly aren’t the entity they once were. They’re capable of giving most teams in the Champions League a good game, but in the end, they fall short of where they want to be. They are slowly becoming a mid-table side in La Liga, and as a result, they need some kind of boost in Europe to give their season a real momentum push.

Valencia were able to pick up a much needed 4-1 win over Lille in their last Champions League outing, which was sandwiched between victories over Granada and Espanyol. They also secured a nice 1-1 draw against Sevilla, but struggled to gain a foothold against Osasuna and Real Betis, losing both encounters.

Chelsea

The Frank Lampard resurgence at Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of remarkable, to the point where they aren’t actually all too far off of competing for the Premier League title again. They need to walk before they can run, though, and the new boss needs to be given a chance to grow and develop this squad even further over the next few years. They’re looking good in the league, but they need a passage into the knockout stage of the Champions League to help take them to that next level.

Chelsea’s astonishing 4-4 draw against Ajax ensured they didn’t fall further behind in the race for a place in the top two, although they haven’t had as much joy against sides from Manchester, losing to City in the league and United in the Carabao Cup. They have, however, been able to defeat Crystal Palace, Watford and Burnley in the Premier League as of late.

Conclusion

Following an incredibly tight game between the two at Stamford Bridge, in which Valencia came away as the 1-0 victors, we’re expecting another tight and cagey affair as these two – essentially – compete for a place in the Round of 16. From a quality standpoint, it’s almost obvious to suggest that the Blues have the upper hand, and we really do believe they’re going to make it count. We think there will be some late drama involved, as always, but that’s part of the chaos that is this competition.

Unlike the first game we are expecting to see a few goals here, and we’re going to predict a 2-1 Chelsea win which will take us above the over 2.5 goals threshold.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 1/1 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from bet365).
