Prediction and odds for the game: Oxford (23/10) v Newcastle (11/10)

Back the away win

When: Tuesday 04th February 2020, kick-off 8:05 PM

Where: The Kassam Stadium

On Tuesday night, Premier League Newcastle face a FA Cup fourth-round replay at League One Oxford United. The first game at St James Park finished goalless.

Oxford

The home side are enjoying a solid campaign in the third tier of English football. In fact, Karl Robinson’s side are just outside the League One play-off spots. While making the top-six will be the priority for the home side, a victory over a Premier League team would be a big feather in the cap of the club and boss Robinson.

A 2-1 win over Blackpool last time out means that Oxford are four games unbeaten in all competitions. However, the win ended a four-game winless run for the U’s in all competitions, as their three matches before the victory over the Tangerines had finished all square.

Oxford have a decent recent record in the FA Cup, as they have won six of their previous eight matches in the competition, having suffered just one defeat in the process. The U’s have also been hard to beat at the Kassam Stadium in the FA Cup, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches.

Newcastle

The Magpies are pretty comfortable in the Premier League table. Therefore, visiting head coach Steve Bruce may name a pretty strong starting eleven in this clash.

The visitors are now unbeaten in seven games in all competitions after a goalless draw against Norwich. However, five of those seven unbeaten matches have finished in draws. Their recent games have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven matches.

The team from the north east have a poor recent record in the FA Cup, winning just one of their last seven matches in the famous old competition over 90 minutes. The one victory over 90 minutes in this competition came in the third round of this season’s edition of the FA Cup, as they saw Rochdale 4-1 at St James Park.

The Magpies away record in the FA Cup is absolutely woeful, as the north east club have not won any of their last 17 matches in the FA Cup in regular time. The visitors have struggled for goals away from home in the competition, failing to score in six of their last nine matches.

Conclusion

Both teams are in decent if not great form. However, we are backing the Magpies to scrape a rare FA Cup victory on their travels. As we believe it will be a tight, game we are also backing the under 2.5 to be scored.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 11/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens. (All odds are taken from Bet365)
