Prediction and odds for the game: Middlesbrough (7/4) v Nottingham Forest (17/10)

We are backing the away win

When: Monday 2nd March 2020, Kick-off 7:45 PM

Where: The Riverside Stadium

On Monday night, Middlesbrough host Nottingham Forest at the Riverside Stadium, in a potentially massive game at both ends of the Championship table.

Middlesbrough

The north east team has endured a nightmare campaign in the Championship this season. They are currently 22nd in the second-tier table, two points from safety in a tight relegation dogfight.

A recent terrible run of form in the league has seen the home team dragged into the relegation zone. A 1-0 home defeat against promotion-chasing Leeds last time out means that Boro have failed to win in nine league matches. In fact, the home side has now suffered four defeats in their last five Championship matches.

Jonathan Woodgate’s team has struggled to score goals of late in the Championship, failing to score in their last three league matches. The poor performances in front of goal of late have been of little surprise, as Boro are the lowest scorers in the second-tier.

Middlesbrough have found home wins in the Championship hard to come by of late, as they have failed to win in five league matches at the Riverside Stadium, including suffering two straight home defeats against Luton and Leeds.

Nottingham Forest

It seems that automatic promotion may just be out of the reach of the visitors. The team from the Midlands have fallen nine points behind Leeds who occupy the second automatic promotion spot.

An inconsistent recent run of form in the league. A 1-0 win at Cardiff City last time out in the second tier ended a run of three games without a league victory for the Tricky Trees. However, the visitors are also now unbeaten in three Championship matches. They will need to hit a good run of late-season form to have any chance of grabbing an automatic promotion spot.

Forest’s recent league matches have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight matches in the Championship. Considering Boro’s problems in front of goal, this game could produce a similar low-scoring outcome.

A patchy away record in the second tier has not helped Forest in their pursuit of automatic promotion. Sabri Lamouchi’s team heads into this game on the back of just three wins in their last eight league games on their travels.

Conclusion

Middlesbrough are a team in big trouble. They could not buy a win at the moment, which is why we are backing the away win in this clash. The other bet we are backing is the under 2.5 goals scored, as neither side have exactly been in many goal fests in the Championship of late.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 17/10 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
