Prediction and odds for the game: Burnley (17/10) v Tottenham (17/10)

We are taking a punt on the home win

When: Saturday 7th March 2020, Kick-off 5:30 PM

Where: Turf Moor

In the Premier League’s late kick-off on Saturday, Tottenham face a potentially difficult trip to Turf Moor to face in-form Burnley.

Burnley

The Clarets have moved away from the fight for relegation to being on the verge of the European spots in recent weeks. Sean Dyche’s team are just two points behind the seventh-place visitors. A win in this clash would put the home side right in the picture to secure continental football for next season.

A goalless draw last time out at Newcastle means that the Clarets are unbeaten in six Premier League games, having recorded four wins and two draws.

The key factor in their recent good league form has been a return to defensive solidity, as the home side has conceded just once in their last five Premier League matches. In fact, goalkeeper Nick Pope more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the English top-flight.

Burnley’s home form has not been great this season. However, the Clarets are currently on a three-game unbeaten run at Turf Moor in the Premier League, having recorded two wins and a draw.

One small negative heading into this game for the home side is that they have won just one of their last 11 meetings with the visitors.

Tottenham

This season has seen many ups and downs for Tottenham. On Wednesday night, Spurs suffered one of their biggest lows of the campaign as struggling Norwich dumped the team from north London out of the FA Cup. The Canaries beat Spurs on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw.

The result means that Jose Mourinho’s team have now failed to win in their last four games in all competitions while suffering three defeats and that penalty loss.

The visitor’s recent record in the Premier League is not much better either, as Spurs have lost their last two league games while winning just three of their last night matches in the English top-flight. Rather unusually for a Mourinho team, Tottenham have been poor defensively of late, conceding at least two goals in their last three league matches.

Winning games away from home has also been a problem for Tottenham of late in the Premier League. The visitors have won just one of their last five league games on their travels.

Conclusion

It is quite incredible that there are just two points between these two teams at this stage of the campaign. However, the middle section of the Premier League table is extremely tight. Burnley are the form team and we fancy them to take advantage of Spurs poor recent form by recording a victory. We are also backing the under 2.5 goals, as Burnley have been strong defensively of late and the visitors are without key attacking players.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 17/10 and/or 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
