Prediction and odds for the game: Dortmund (13/5) v Bayern Munich (17/20)

We are backing the away win

When: Tuesday, 26th May 2020, Kick-off 17:30

Where: Signal Iduna Park

On Tuesday evening, Dortmund host Bayern Munich at Signal Iduna Park, in what could be the pivotal game in the race for the Bundesliga title.

Dortmund

Lucien Favre’s team head into this clash four points behind Tuesday’s visitors, despite a good recent run of form in the Bundesliga. A 2-0 win at Wolfsburg last time out means that BVB have now recorded six straight league victories. Unsurprisingly considering their recent form, Dortmund have been highly effective at both ends of the pitch. They have scored at least twice in five of their last six league matches, while also conceding just one goal in the same run of games.

BVB are undefeated in their last 14 home games at the Signal Iduna in the German top-flight, having recorded 11 victories. More recently they have won their last five league matches on home soil. Dortmund have been devastating in attack on home soil of late, scoring at least three goals in eight of their last nine league matches at the Signal Iduna Park. However, they have also made a big improvement in defence, keeping clean sheets in their last four league matches on home soil.

Dortmund have a poor recent record against Bayern, winning just four of the last 12 competitive meetings with the perennial champions. One positive is that they have beaten the champions in the last two meetings at Signal Iduna Park.

Bayern Munich

The reigning champions have moved into top gear of late in the Bundesliga. A 5-2 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt in their outing means that the Bavarians are unbeaten in 13 league matches, having recorded an impressive 12 victories. Like the home side, Bayern have been prolific in front of goal of late, scoring at least twice in all 12 of their recent Bundesliga victories. Hansi Flick’s team has also kept clean sheets in six of their previous eight league outings.

Die Bayern have been very strong travellers of late, recording six straight away wins having scored at least two goals in all six wins. At the other end of the pitch, the visitors have also conceded just two goals in five league games on their travels.

Bayern will once again look to experienced Polish striker Robert Lewandowski for attacking inspiration, as the former Dortmund striker has scored 27 times in just 25 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Conclusion

This is a massive game in the context of the Bundesliga title. Therefore, it is hard to predict. BVB have had the better of Bayern at Signal Iduna Park of late. However, without the Yellow Wall and fans behind them, this game could be a very different one. Bayern are flying at the minute, which is why we are backing the away win. Both teams have fearsome attacks, so we are also taking a punt on over 3.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 17/20 and over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11.
