Prediction and odds for the game: Brighton (4/1) v Chelsea (8/13)
We are backing Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 5/6
When: Monday, 14th September 2020, kick-off 20:15
Where: The AMEX Stadium
On Monday night, Brighton and Chelsea clash at the AMEX Stadium in the Premier League, with the visitors hoping that heavy summer spending will lead to a winning start to the new league campaign.
The Seagulls finished 15th place in the Premier League table last season in Graham Potter’s first campaign as head coach. The team from the south coast finished seven points clear of the relegation zone, with avoiding the drop arguably their primary objective for the season.
Potter’s team ended the season 2019/20 Premier League campaign with a three-game unbeaten run. However, the home side only won three of their final 18 matches in the English top-flight.
The team from the south coast finished last season in poor form on their travels, winning just one of their final nine Premier League games at the AMEX Stadium. The Seagulls also failed to win any of the final four home league games of the campaign, suffering three defeats in the process.
The home team brought in midfielder Adam Lallana from champions Liverpool, while defender Joel Veltman arrived from Dutch giants Ajax. Experienced striker Glenn Murray has joined Championship Watford on a season-long loan deal.
Fresh from finishing fourth-place in the Premier League last season to claim a Champions League spot, Chelsea have splashed the cash in the transfer market. The Blues have brought in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Ben Chilwell have all arrived at the team from south west London. The new additions have led to talk of Frank Lampard’s team as potential Premier League title challengers this season.
The Blues finished last season with a run of seven wins from their final ten top-flight outings. Lampard’s team was prolific towards the end of the league campaign, scoring at least two goals in seven of their final eight league games.
While their end of season league form was impressive in general, Chelsea away form dipped dramatically toward the end of last season. They won just two of their final nine Premier League games on their travels, while also losing three of their final four games on the road.
Lampard’s team were woeful in defence in their late-season away games in the top-flight, conceding at least two goals in six of their last seven matches on their travels.
Brighton will feel they have made two good signings. However, it is hard to see anything other than an away win considering the quality of player Chelsea have added to their squad. The away win doesn’t offer much value. Therefore, instead, we are looking at the goals market. One bet that stands out to us is Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer on his debut. The other bet we are backing is over 2.5 goals, as the Blues could be highly dangerous going forward in this clash.
Verdict: We are backing Timo Werner to be an anytime goalscorer at 5/6 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).[geosnippet id=3620]
