Prediction and odds for the game: PSG (13/20) v Marseille (33/10)

We are backing the draw at odds of 10/3

When: Sunday, 13th September 2020, Kick-off 20:00

Where: The Parc des Princes

On Sunday night, PSG host Marseille at the Parc des Princes in Ligue One, as the reigning French champions look for their first win of the French top-flight campaign.

PSG

Thomas Tuchel’s team kicked-off their title defence with a 1-0 defeat at newly-promoted Lens. However, the defeat can under mitigating circumstances. The Parisians were without Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Keylor Navas, Marquinhos, Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes, who were all absent after testing positive for COVID-19. Only Neymar and Di Maria will be available for selection for this clash.

The opening gameweek defeat for the home side ended an undefeated run of 15 games in the top-flight for PSG. The defeat also saw a run of prolific goalscoring in Ligue One come to an end for the team from the French capital, as they had scored at least twice in that 15 match unbeaten run.

The reigning champions are ten games unbeaten in the French top-flight, recording nine victories. PSG were also high-scoring on home soil, as the Parisians have scored at least twice in their last six home games in Ligue One.

The home team is 19 games unbeaten in all competitions against Marseille, winning six of the last seven meetings. The reigning champions will be hoping to maintain that good recent record, despite the numerous absentees.

Marseille

The curtailment of last season saw OM finish as runners-up in Ligue One under former Chelsea head coach Andre Villas-Boas. The visitors kicked off their campaign with a 3-2 win at Brest before the international break.

OM built their runners up spot last season on being hard to beat, as the visitors have suffered just one defeat in their last 18 outings in Ligue One. The visitors have also been prolific of late in the French top-flight, having scored at least twice in four of their last five league games.

Marseille have been strong on their travels of late in Ligue One, as OM are undefeated in their previous nine away games, having managed seven victories. The key to the visitors good away form has been their attacking efforts, as they have scored at least two goals in their last four away matches.

Conclusion

This is a potentially tricky encounter for the home due to the number of players likely to be missing from their squad. That is why we are not backing the Parisians to record a victory. However, we believe that Tuchel’s team have enough quality available to claim a draw from this clash. With so many attacking players out for PSG, the game may also be low-scoring, so we are also taking a punt on under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 10/3 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 6/5 (All odds are taken from Bet365)
