Prediction & odds for the game: Liverpool (2/9) v Sheffield United (11/1)

When: Saturday, 24th October @ 8pm K.O

Where: Anfield

Liverpool will try and get their Premier League campaign back on track when they host struggling Sheffield United at Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool

It’s been an uncertain start to the new Premier League season for Liverpool and as we look ahead to the rest of the campaign, there are bound to be some questions asked when it comes to their defensive structure. They’re going to do everything in their power to retain the title and make a push into the latter stages of the Champions League but without Virgil van Dijk in their corner, that’s going to be a tough ask.

Liverpool’s 7-2 win over Lincoln was impressive, but it wound up being a foreshadowing of their own downfall as they lost 7-2 to Aston Villa 10 days later. They then exchanged wins with Arsenal in the league and cup before a 2-2 draw against Everton, and then against Ajax, they edged out a narrow 1-0 win.

Sheffield United

Chris Wilder would’ve been hearing the phrase second season syndrome for weeks now after the poor start that the Blades have made to the season. Alas, this is a marathon, not a sprint, and the gaffer will be the first one to remind us all of that. A game like this will see the pressure go off of their shoulders and onto Liverpool’s and when you’re in that sort of position, you have a whole lot of freedom.

After a 2-0 loss to Wolves in their league opener, United crashed out of the Carabao Cup against Burnley. They then went on a tough three game losing streak against Aston Villa, Leeds and Arsenal before only managing a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Fulham.

Conclusion

Liverpool may have had their fair share of setbacks over the course of the last few weeks, but this is exactly the kind of game they need to get them back on track. While United are going to serve as stiff opposition from the first minute until the very last, we still aren’t expecting much other than a Reds victory. It’ll be closer than Jurgen Klopp would like but in the end, they’ll secure all three points and get back to winning ways.

We’re going to go with a 1-0 scoreline on the night, booking us in for the under 2.5 goals bet. That may lead some to think we aren’t in for an exciting game, but that seems virtually impossible when you consider the style of play that both teams tend to put forward on a week to week basis.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 2/9 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 13/8 (All odds are taken from bet365).
