Prediction and odds for the game: Southampton (14/5) v Manchester United (19/20)

We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5

When: Sunday, 29th November 2020, Kick-off 14:00

Where: St Mary’s Stadium

On Sunday afternoon, Southampton host Manchester United at St Marys in the Premier League, as the home side look to continue their promising recent form.

Southampton

The Saints seem to have found their feet under highly-rated Austrian head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl. The team from the south coast are unbeaten in seven Premier League matches, having recorded five wins. Last time out they were held to a 1-1 draw at Molineux by Wolves. The draw ended a three-game winning run in the English top-flight for the home side. The match also saw a prolific run of form in front of goal end for Hasenhuttl’s team, as they had scored at least two goals in their previous five league matches.

When it comes to playing on home soil, the Saints have been in good form, not only winning their last three home league matches without conceding, but winning four of their previous five league outings at St Mary’s. United’s dangerous attacking talent will certainly offer a threat to the home sides recent good defensive record.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have been highly unconvincing of late and you just never know what you are going to get with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. United recorded a 4-1 home midweek win over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League. The win followed an underwhelming 1-0 win over West Brom in their last league outing.

The visitors have just been so inconsistent in the top-flight of late, winning just three of their last six games in the Premier League. Their inconsistent form has left them languishing in 10th place in the top-flight table.

One positive for United is their excellent away form in the Premier League. The Red Devils have recorded seven straight league wins on their travels. Solskjaer’s team has also scored at least two goals in each of those away wins in the Premier League.

Portuguese attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes has played a key part in the visitors attacking play. The former Sporting Lisbon star has six league goals in eight appearances this season. He also scored a brace in the midweek Champions League game.

Manchester United have been a bit of a bogey team for Southampton of late, as the Saints have not beaten the Red Devils in eight meetings. However, five of those games have finished all square, including four of the last five matches.

Conclusion

This is a classic solid home team against a team who are better on their travels. Recent meetings between these two teams have been close and once again we are backing this one to finish in a draw. We are also backing both teams to score, as the pair have been prolific in recent months.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 14/5 and/or both teams to score at odds of 7/10 (All odds are taken from Bet365).
