Prediction and odds for the game: West Brom (10/3) vs Everton (5/6)

We are backing the away win

When: Thursday, 4th March 2021, Kick-off 18:00

Where: The Hawthorns

On Thursday evening, struggling West Brom welcome Champions League-chasing Everton to the Hawthorns, in a vital game at both ends of the Premier League table.

West Brom

For much of the Premier League campaign, West Brom have looked doomed to life in the Championship. However, a three-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, including a 1-0 win over Brighton last time out, looks to have given the Baggies a slither of hope of survival this season.

Sam Allardyce’s team are still nine points from safety. The recent good results have coincided with the Baggies improving in defence, as they have now kept clean sheets in their last two league outings. The defensive improvement was much-needed, as no team has conceded more Premier League goals than the team from the Midlands this season.

West Brom are unbeaten in their last three home matches in the English top-flight, although they have also won just once in their previous eight league games at the Hawthorns. The Baggies defensive issues are the main cause of their recent poor home form in the Premier League, as they have conceded at least two goals in six of their last eight league matches on home soil.

Everton

The Toffees are enjoying a highly promising season, even if they have been slightly inconsistent at times. Carlo Ancelotti’s team are currently seventh-place in the Premier League table but are just two points adrift of the Champions League spots after back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Southampton. The men from Merseyside will certainly fancy their chances of sealing a European place for next season.

One factor that has been crucial to Everton’s chances of a top-six finish this season has been their outstanding away form in the Premier League. The visitors are unbeaten in eight away matches in the league, having recorded six wins. Those unbeaten matches include winning at Leicester and Liverpool, while also drawing at Manchester United.

The Toffees have been potent on their travels in the top-flight too, scoring at least two goals in six of their previous eight away matches.

Everton’s Brazilian forward Richarlison has hit a hot run of form of late, scoring in his last three league appearances for the Toffees. He seems to have recovered from a major drop in form earlier in the season.

Conclusion

The Baggies have shown signs that their form could be turning around of late. However, Everton have been away day specialists in recent months. They are such a good away team and we are backing them to record another victory in this clash. However, we believe this may be a low-scoring encounter because of the Baggies recent defensive improvement, so we are also taking a punt on under 2.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of  5/6 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
